Valve doesn't make games often. In fact, they've only made a handful over many decades. But when they do, it is so revolutionary, so blatantly, obviously leaps and bounds better than anything, anyone else is doing it just blows your mind.

This game on it's own is worth getting a VR headset, and I've only played it for one hour. THIS is what AAA VR games will be measured against for a decade and probably long after.

Thank you Jebus for giving us this game.

If only just scratched the surface so I'll update later but ...

It seems like they did it. I never thought I'd see another true Jagged Alliance game, but here it is.

The merc roster is great. I immediately loved both old and new characters (marry me Katalyna). Combat is good, strategic element is good, finding guns is good ... everything feels like Jagged Alliance, but still improved and added upon, not changed. I'm so happy I might shed a tear.

Edit: I just read some of the negative reviews and almost all of them just don't know what they're doing and blaming the game for it. You're not supposed to rush into a stronghold (unless you're absolutely elite skill or something), you have to weaken it first by doing missions.

You absolutely CAN fire single shot with something like an AK (that's the beauty of assault rifles, they're versatile, only something like an MP40 can only shoot burst).
You also CAN change the UI scale.
Some people are just never gonna be happy. Don't let your fun be spoiled by them.

Specific things I like:
As said, the merc roster. There's maybe not super many to begin with, but the game hints there will be more AND there are no 'useless' mercs. All of them make sense (so a little quality of quantity).

The way they handled 'chance to hit' is perfect. It's not an exact chance to hit (which makes it more analytic, less fun) BUT they also don't make you make a wild guess. You have indicators (range, modifiers) which help you make an informed guess (but you still go by feel). Love it.

Fist pumping when you make a headshot that you needed to hit.

I like how the combat feels like it's Jagged Alliance (like AP's for 'aiming') but they expended on it with crit chance, choosing between aiming more or taking cover, etc...

Absolutely soul crushing. For some reason you have to hold a button while you're 'riding in formation'. Why? Just let me enjoy the scene or let me play, but don't hold me hostage? Same with looting. After the first fight there's like 40 bodies and if you want to loot them you have to sit through a loot animation every single time. Movement is sluggish as hell ... I have no idea how this game is so popular. I'd rather play Days Gone again than slog through this piece of rubbish.

Really cool game already. I actually can't believe this hasn't been done before.
Really though in the beginning (I almost quit) but if you persevere it gets easier.

Has a ton of potential to grow into a very nice game. Currently still has bugs and the content isn't finished. Needs more gun porn too, but is absolutely a lot of fun right now already.

I liked the game, but it's definitely a tier down from Subnautica, Satisfactory, Green Hell and The Forest.

For me the problem is mostly the pacing of the game. It's a cool concept, sitting on a raft and the story slowly unfolding. For a Raft game though, I feel I spent way too much time on land in 'story islands'. I didn't get that feeling where you go to your objective but you get sidetracked 20 times and so by the time you actually do get there, you're strong enough. In Raft there are only a handful of thing worth investing into.

Like the 'base building' doesn't synergize well with the story gameplay. There's not much of a point.

So all in all, some definite gameplay flaws in my mind, but still very much worth the 30hours.

I don't really know why this game in particular, but I keep coming back to it.

Fun game but still pretty buggy (crashes sometimes, sometimes you have to reboot for a mission to get 'unstuck'). Nothing dramatic, but can get a little annoying.

Nice open world to drive in and do story missions. It's not super variated, but enough. Solid 7 or 8 out of 10.

Edit: have now finished the story and it really grew on me more. It's maybe a little grindy but you know, it's really still very fun to do. The story is nothing crazy, but you do get more invested in the characters over time. Definitely give this one a go, really liked it and would up the score to an 8,5 or 9 even.

Edit 2: turns out I might have had some issues with my graphics card that started around the time I played this game. So some (all even) of the crashes might be on my pc, not the game.

Super addictive!

I really like survival and exploration, but I couldn't get into this one at all. The world is just sooo bland compared to subnautica/the forest/green hell. I felt no draw whatsoever in exploring what lies beyond.
