A very strong concept but still (hopefully?) early access. A VERY rough introduction with extremely janky mechanics.

In previous Monster Hunter games HR meant something different than the brown woman following you, telling you which monsters you're "allowed" to hunt. The only thing worse than the handler is having the handler accompany you on every hunt. The thing about MH is that I care about the ecology, monster behaviour, monster legends, all that. I don't care about some random Indian kid who was attacked by a wyvern, I care about the wyvern. It's nice that we get to skip the cutscenes, but they REALLY want to waste our time by injecting those horrible forced walking sections which take just as long to say just as little. Gone are the days of "Go collect mushrooms. Great, tutorial over" because now the hens accompany you everywhere you go to cluck eternally.

The gameplay is fire though.

Oh and there might be one or two optimization issues.

There is literally no onboarding process and I feel punished for having purchased this without having played since the first one. I have spent more time in menus trying to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing than doing anything. At first I awoke near an abandoned cosmodrome, then I'm chasing a traveller through the end of space "re"introducing me to character I've never met? Who are these people, what are these concepts, where are these places? This game looks super pretty but is absolutely unintelligible and impossible to access.

Feels bad

The moment I noted that I did not need fuel for furnaces and the like, I knew this game was about to respect my time. I'm early on and I'm already in love.

Pink a cute

I saw an ad for this on an obscure Taiwanese (Not china btw) basket weaving forum, and decided to toss a shekel at it. I couldn't actually get into the game because of a far too long EULA that I'm neither reading nor blindly agreeing to. The title screen is neat though.

Plaiting is the best basket weaving technique.

Gotta get my fix. GOTTA GET MY FIX. The mind virus spreads as this is now a very real contender for GOTY. Rightly so.
