Honestly? it keeps getting worse. Me and my friends were only hoping for the game to 'get better' in a linear line. more POIs, more weapons, maybe change how the game looks a bit.
Instead, they've decided to recreate the game. Multiple times. It feels like a new game every update, in a bad way. Changing how you level up, changing how you craft, changing how you wear armor (and removing armors). None of the rash points the game has have ever changed, but the parts you paid no mind to that were great foundation have been dramatically changed, and more changes to the foundation every sequential update after.

It used to be a great example of a game that could eventually become greater. But it's just turned into a mutant I don't recognize.

There is an elite that reverses all the damage you deal to any enemies near it and kills you instantly.

It's just good fun with friends, and I'm excited to see where this game will go in the future, and how they tell the galaxy's story
(As all planet campaigns are DEVELOPER-made and manually chosen!)
Excited for new stratagems, especially Mechs and vehicles!

Constant audio cut-outs, almost unplayable lag.

3060TI, 32GB RAM, i9-9900kf
On an SSD

Cannot talk to any NPC without having the game lag out upon dialogue start and the dialogue only starts about a minute after.

Early Access Review
Xenonauts 1, but with a paint can thrown at it.
It's not even a new coat of paint.
Xenonauts 1 is more complete and less buggy, with the same exact graphics.
Also, enemies are not effected by smoke as much as you are. Your chance to hit could be 0%, and they will still hit you (and kill you!) with a reaction shot after you shot at them.
Enemies will always be accurate, while your soldiers will not have the ability to fight back due to being 'mesmerized' each turn.

All in all, not a bad game...?

The gunplay that was changed from the janky and delayed shooting in New Vegas is a dramatic upgrade. VATS is not the crutch anymore for fights, as you can easily hold off that horde of molerats all by yourself without VATS spamming. Armor modularity is a dramatic change as well, being able to switch between overarmor, underclothes, wrists chest and helmet is a great strategy (and great outfits) to think of as you go along.

Gun variability is terrible. There is maybe 20 base guns in the game at best. The good part is that you can modify them in tens of ways, the bad part is that there's only one good variant of the weapon and it's usually the full-auto version. Get yourself a gun mod ASAP.

The story is even worse. It was appealing at the beginning, the story built itself up magnificently by having your wife killed an child stolen (a story grab that probably anyone would be intrigued by at the least). However it falls off quickly Immediately upon arrival of the airship. The brotherhood is a shell of what was cool about them in New Vegas. Where did they get all of this crap and why are they here other than being an interesting throwback?
--(there's no way they came all the way here just to blow up the most advanced technological faction in the wasteland instead of stealing their stuff at the very least... but that's what they do.)--

Upon meeting the Father most if not all interest is lost. It's a funny wordplay but it destroys the intrigue of the main story plot. As soon as you met him, he dies. And the absolute bewilderment I had when he attempted to appoint me, the wanderer, the vagrant, the most technologically dumb character in the whole wasteland, to the status of the new Father? The game's main story was lost on me.

Side stories were meh, and that's kind of all. Side stories that you would think have massive weight in the wasteland changes nothing, but other side quests which do little could change massive parts of the wasteland, say for example the minutemen taking over the big fort. It makes me miss the complexities that old New Vegas' side quests had.

all in all though, it's a good experience for what it's worth. it's not as good as it could've been but it is definitely worth the money in how many hours you'll waste on it. And if you get mods, you're in for a whole new experience in so many ways.
in a way, mods may save it.

Oh and the DLC are okay, making your own robot is cool.

This game to me is largely addictive. Between fighting other players, you have chaff to bide your time with, easy zombies to push through immediately, and heavier and stronger enemies to debate their worth in your time wasted trying to kill them.
When you do fight other players the shooting is very responsive and snappy. Playing in gunslinger mode, you need to bring your rifle up to your shoulder first before hip-fire, then again to your eyes before aimed fire. This gives me more time to think before I shoot and makes fighting more of a surprise interruption in your nice swamp trot.
There is no bullet drop, and within the area of the swamp it makes sense. No fight is likely farther than 500m, where bullet drop is unlikely to have much of an occurrence realistically. This simplifies fighting but does not entirely eliminate the skill because of **Bullet speed**.
Bullet speed is your one true enemy. Each weapon has an entirely unique bullet speed, some being almost immediate within milliseconds, some taking a full second to hit an enemy in the right situations.

Fighting bosses are generally straightforward. Each have their own unique quirks you need to work past, but nothing you can't handle I can assure you.
When in doubt, get out of the boss lair and catch some air.

In all honesty, calling this game pay to win is a gross understatement.
The gun-play is snappy and good, the grenades work well and the vehicles are all balanced near-perfectly. But here are the issues that make this game near unplayable;

Most weapons, vehicles, planes and consumables are locked behind the in-game currency. Is there a way to gain this currency naturally at least? Nah.
Can you grind for all of these classes and weapons? If you are immortal you might be able to.

The game itself however is a great idea. Ground troops comprised of vehicles, infantry and air units all contending for capture points and kills in order to gain XP for their 'Heroes'. All of this dictated by a 'General' who chose to fight the enemy within this area in a RTS type game-mode. All of the ground forces are there because of a General giving move orders on a realistic and amazing European map that likely many players have not even seen (as you need a high level Hero before being a general).

Sadly, this game's best ideas are locked behind a giant pay-wall and an even larger time-wall.

An old classic that I miss dearly.

EMPIRES mixed together Real-Time Strategy and First Person Shooters perfectly. Ground troops would have your usual 'battlefield'-esque classes: engineer, heavy, assault etc. The gunplay was good, all things considered. Weapons were well-balanced and both factions had their own little quirks to make them unique.
The impressive part was the base building and vehicle deployment. Everything was created by a 'commander' presiding over one faction or the other. Directing the PLAYER infantry, they would gain command points and resource points by capturing areas. In return for the infantry's hard work, the commander would make weapon upgrades, create vehicle buildings for infantry to spawn vehicles, and call in ammo or health support if needed in a tough fight.
Even if the infantry were not cooperating with the commander, the commander themselves could make turrets to hold strategic points (though they were weak, they were just enough to hold points of interest).

Instead of an RTS relying on a commander to make all the calls all the time, one single infantry could turn the tide of battle and become a hero. A bad commander could be an annoyance rather than game-ending. Likewise, bad infantry could be countered by a masterful commander leading the infantry to make amazing plays.

i would definately recommend this game for the RPer and the action junkie.
although, if you want to play it again, it better be to get things you missed last time, if not, you might want to get some mods prepared, because in my opinion its replay value is more limited than not.
but, if it's your first time, get some combat boots on and put on a fedora, because you're in for a classy but action packed game.
just watch out for those deathclaws and cazadores. if you pick a fight with them without anything close to the best, your face will be on another side of the mojave before you could get your companion to become a meatshield.

all in all, the game is fun, but replaying isnt as fun unless if you go at it with a completely different style or with mods, but it's always fun to see a ghoul get its face blown off by a shotgun.
