Best with a powerful CPU! Playable on my i7-4790 but it chugs sometimes. Perfect on my i5-12600K.

It's charming and cozy, no doubt about it. But it's also kind of a shallow and glitchy mess.

I'm not gonna pretend it's a bad game, but I can't personally recommend it. I refunded it after giving it 84 minutes worth of a chance.

First of all, my Steam is set to English. I know for a fact that games can tell because all my games default to English. But this game ignored that and defaulted to my system language instead? And it kinda takes ages to load even on a modern system...? And requires a full reboot to accept the language change?? So I already went into it kinda meh like because of that annoyance. And of course when I went to play it on another computer it didn't even sync that setting so I had to go through that whole thing a second time. I would not be surprised if 15 of my 84 minutes were spent rebooting for language changes.

The menus are a mess. In the character creator, there's just... no option to check out a thing without changing it. I go to change hair color and it doesn't show me which one I have, and it won't close until I pick one. And if I select skin color it just overlaps the hair color menu instead of closing it. And then also doesn't close that until I choose a skin color. And this is a theme that more or less repeats throughout the entire game, whenever you open a menu, there's one very specific thing you can do to close it. I kept hitting esc to close menus, I kept hitting right click to close menus, it would just... not close menus. I kept having to find the little back button and click it.

When you place a chair you have multiple of, it automatically lets you place the next one. Good! It also immediately resets the orientation. So I select chair, turn, place, turn turn, place, turn turn turn, place... instead of just place, turn, place, turn, place. Why does it not remember? Why default to a specific orientation?

And it won't let you place chairs if they are not at a table. But it doesn't stop you from putting down a table, placing a chair, and then moving the table. I've had customers sit on chairs and hover their drinks in front of them. Uhhhh. This game is supposed to be two years old? And you didn't fix that yet? Surely I am not the first person who tried to move a table without first removing all chairs??

When trying to adopt a new stray, I clicked a cat to see its stats. That then petted the cat and stopped letting me do anything except close the menu entirely. By the third attempt I had finally figured out that they want you to mouse over the cats to look, and click to pick. It makes no indication that you're clicking to progress towards unlocking a cat, you're just kinda supposed to infer that.

And the actual gameplay is shallow as heck. Customer walks in, you get uncomfortably close, hold a button, then walk to the right machine, hold a button, walk back to the customer, hold a button, and then you wait for a new customer. And I kept getting stuck on chairs so maneuvering around them is kind of like a minigame...? But not like one that feels intended. Or good.

Speaking of chairs, the end of day screen kept going all YOU SHOULD BUY MORE CHAIRS TO GET MORE CUSTOMERS. While the shop... would not sell me more chairs. Maybe give me advice I can actually follow?

I didn't bother far enough to actually unlock anything at the shrine, so I can't say how it looks with employees and management and strategy down the line. But the first 84 minutes definitely did not impress, they just frustrated me.

The characters and dialogues are kinda cute though. Even if the replies just feel like [yes] and [quirky yes].

This might be the game for you. But it is not the game for me.

I'm not sure why this is fun, but six hours vanished like it was nothing. Poof. I'm gonna play some more now.

I can't quite describe what I like about this game, but I just went to bed at 6 AM because of it.

One more drive...
