So, I backed this game before release, had chance to play the Skirmish beta and knew this would be good. And it is. A little background on me though. Me, and my friends have been playing table top Battletech for 25 years. Its a tough game. It requires forethough, planning, patience and in some cases...a little luck. I just wanted to get that in there so that you know I am coming from a background of having played the table top for what is now nearly half of my life. That all now said, I want to address some 'reviews' that I have seen on here in regards to the game, the AI, always getting hit, light mechs, medium mechs etc, etc.

Well, where to being. I read one review that said that the AI always hits. Simply not true. This is an outright lie infact. You need to understand how important moving is. "You go slow, you die." Use movement combined with cover to get the most benefits. Learn to maneuver and with a little practice and trial and error, you will be fine. I can get through 2 skull missions in medium mechs with no need to repair due to such a small amount of armour damage. So yeah...this assertion is flat wrong.

Light mechs being useless? Well, they arent meant to get into a fight. That is not what light mechs are used for. Light mech are recon and if you are careful with them, long range support. Get a Panther with a PPC, jump him around like a flea and take potshots. Dont directly confront a mech in a light. Thats just stupid.

I have also heard people complaining about medium mechs. Medium Mechs are fine, but you really need to fit most of them out yourself. As an example, I have a Centurion that I fitted out to eliminate heavy and medium mechs. I fitted with with 3 SRM6's and 2 Medium Lasers, Jump Jets and Heatsinks. Get it in closer, it tears mech apart of any weight.

Then there are people complaining about LRMs. Really? You are complaining about LRMs? They are called Long Range Missiles for a reason. The clue of how to deal with them is in the name. Get in close, get in fast. And then people saying that tanks and vehicles are better than mechs in the game? Well, yes and no. Some vehicles can carry a large number of weapons, but, just walk over and stomp on them. They are EXTREMELY weak to melee.

Its not a perfect game. It has issues, bugs and the like, but no game launches perfectly. Its well worth your time, just dont expect an easy ride, you are not gonna get it as some people here seem to have expected. Highly recommended as this will be the start point for a full on Merc Company Sim....a Sim that people like me have been waiting for.
