Not even half way through and this game has IMO exceeded Pillars 1 in many aspects. I was VERY unsure if I even wanted to play this after PoE because the surface Steam reviews seemed to pass it off as "oh it's not that good" or "PoE1 was better".
They clearly improved the game in a lot of ways and I had no idea going into it that it would be a straight up pirate game. Makes Assassin's Creed Black Flag look like a child's toy.

Pros:
-TURN-BASED COMBAT IS NOW AN OPTION, PRAISE THE DEVS!

-Extremely good graphics and lighting a vast improvement over PoE

-Much larger scope than PoE and mind boggling amount to explore as you want.

-Favorite characters (thankfully!) come back for your adventures

-Dialogue system now lets you reflect your personality and that in turn gives you a reputation.

-Camera auto centers on party and entire party is selected after battles (this was a huge headache in PoE1)

-Leveling and general quality of life in game is refined and easier to understand

-Probably even more voice acting than the original

-Robust ship and crew system with resource management

-Rest system no longer requires materials, but you need at least basic food for the party. (vast improvement)

Neutral: At least in turn-based battles take A LOOOONG TIME. You can put the battle speed on max and turn on turn end after player action (very helpful) but even then even simple battles can drag out.

Cons:
-Performance is somehow worse than PoE1, even on an RTX 3080. Expect dips to 30-40fps in towns and other places as well as some stuttering. Might be less of an issue outside 4K, but I've noticed the longer the game runs the worse it gets so restarting every few hours is needed.

-Suggested level for quests/areas is COMPLETELY off. One of the first major story areas says it's at your level, but then throws red triple skull enemies at you that will party wipe.

-They tried to improve AI pathfinding for your party by pushing non-active players out of the way, but your selected character will still make extremely frustrating choices sometimes if you let them auto walk to attack something in tight quarters with characters in the way. This is mostly an issue with turn-based where you can be cheated out of an attack turn.

-Early game is very tight on money especially when you need to feed a whole crew and not have them mutiny. It's not really a con, but you need to be super careful or you could pretty much screw the entire game up.

Already one of the best CRPG's I've played and I actually like it more than PoE1. Do not pass on this.

I followed Eggnut before the demo even released. I was pretty passionate about this game and everything surrounding it. This game is NOT going to be what you expect nor is it going to be what other classic point and click games are like.

I can honestly say I stayed away after the initial reaction of it, but I urge anyone that enjoyed the demo to just buy it on sale. I know 100% where the negativity comes from and I get it, but if you go in and just accept the flow and the story, it's quite a ride.

A page right out of my childhood with the DOS adventures games I love with a mature storyline.
Well written story and characters. Very pleasing to play through.

Not the absolute moment-by-moment terror that RE7 was, but a much more fleshed out world and story. An extremely well made title with fantastic pacing and atmosphere. Hands down one of the best in the series.

The best licenced game I've ever played. Very well written dialogue and a surprisingly fantastic story. Might even be better than the movies!

I think the narrator is a really nice guy and is not long winded nor does he drone on. An outstanding model of a human being if ever there was one. In fact when you consider the common facilities that go into narration, one should really look inward on themselves and reflect on the very nature of their own existence. Though what is it to merely exist? To Narrate for others? To simply observe? To spew your opinions like a burst pipe? No. I think the true purpose of man can be easily summed up as follows: a- ＞＞｜

Graphics/Story/Plot/Execution/music/aesthetics/level design: Very good.

The game however kind of falls apart in later game if you don't have a guide as some missions are vague or some require you to do something very specific that's easy to fail for no real reason. Obviously game is quite repetitive (Not because of the timeloop, but at points you will be backtracking to the same place and doing the exact same thing several times.)

Beyond the frustration at certain parts, it's overall a really cool game and concept. The ending isn't exactly what I was hoping for though.

What can change the nature of a review?

Some of the deepest lore and one of the most interesting stories I've seen in a game. Nothing else compares.
