An excellent age of sail game, reminds me a lot of EVE online in many aspects.

I have to admit, Initially I was worried that the graphics of the game weren't pushing many limits, but what I found underneath was a very slickly developed game with well though out progression, very enjoyable boss encounters, and a solid challenge that you can actually grow against. Easily a 10 of 10 for design, and though I was skeptical at first the visuals of the game absolutely grow on you.

I will say the building mechanics and snap points were a struggle but the sheer scope of the progression based leveling of weapons and the smart details in the 'plot' of the game is definitely intentional. The Developers have achieved a rare combination of making a highly addictive but unique and non-repetative Survival Multiplayer experience with a lot of enjoyable material set in a unique world that lets it's historical flair and mythos pay off in some fast paced moments of struggle.

There is a definitive rush when you dodge the greatclub in the hands of a 10ft tall Troll and you realize this massive creature is catching up with you.

The music is excellent as is the nature filled ambiance of the soundtrack. Hordes of enemies who may be individually easy to conquer can quickly become a viable threat if caught off guard and the buff driven bonuses serve the gameplay at every juncture.

If you have been considering the game but have been on the fence up to this point due to it's development status I highly encourage folks to watch a few videos and give it a shot. This small team has produced a thoroughly enjoyable game even at this unfinished point. I cannot wait to see where these devs go from here.

Today the Colonists of Murica rejoiced in the wedding Ceremony of our one armed Doctor Katrina and her former patient and recent recipient of a bionic spine , Silvermane. The ceremony was briefly interrupted by a random attack of man-eating chinchillas. The couple seemed to be in good spirits with the prospects of chinchilla burgers for the reception and rumors of new leather couches to adorn their small abode.

God this game is great. Buy it. Buy it full price. Never spend a dull weekend ever again. Write fiction based on your in game events. Share it on r/RimWorld or r/talesfromtheRim

Oh and tell your family I apologize for leading you into this death spiral of wasting all your spare time... I'm sure you love them... even though you've refused to come out of your den to eat.

69/10 would lose all scope of free time again!

The original always seemed much easier for some reason. A treasure none the less.

Don't get me wrong. I do love the game Single player and Online... What I'm not a fan of however is the proliferation of Modding Cheaters in the Online community. Rockstar really needs to step up their banning system. Thats really the only negative thing I have to say. For those complaining about it being grindy to get nice things... uh... well have you ever actually played an MMORPG before?

That's kinda how things are done.

So. Wanted to take the moment to put out a short review about my experience with the game.

You'll note that there's a lot of negative feedback about it releasing DLC while it's still in alpha, that the multiplayer servers are rife with PVP juggernauts that squash new players trying to solo (similar to just about any other server based pvp / survival game ala Rust/7 Days to Die/etc..) and specific complaints about balance and pandering to veterans.

These are all genuine complaints, but in absolute truth... This game is amazing.

Would I recommend this game? Absolutely- Hell play it solo for a while. Playing with a tribe definitely increases what you're capable of but the sheer scope and vistas of even the regular game without Scorched Earth (I personally got both on a Steam sale, but rarely use SE content) is epic.

The Island map genuinely feels like something out of Jurrassic Park. I find myself comparing the taming part of the game to something like... Pokemon Primal... you suddenly discover that you want to catch them all! This game is VERY time intensive on live multiplayer servers. Taming and breeding can eat up literal hours of your life at a time, but I personally don't mind this. It gives me "projects" to work on during a weekend.

This game is not perfect, but really for what they're asking me to pay for I've already logged about 300 hours so far and I don't mind that. One sage piece of advice, be sure to check 3rd Party internet resources to assist with taming and breeding. There's a handful of very useful sites and apps that can get you rolling quite quickly if you don't mind doing a little research.

Visual: 8/10 We're not talking jaw dropping CPU melting graphics here. There's clipping issues, some of the textures are less than optimized and there's not a lot of difference in flora. That said, it's a genuinely pretty game at some points. The Lighting Effects work very well, and the dino's themselves are rendered well. The genetic based coloring of each dino lends some real interesting artistry to breeding for specific color traits.

Audio: 8/10 The sounds of the game work very well, my one complaint so far being the inability to sound proof buildings aside from using distance. Once you find yourself in a barn environment you can sometimes find yourself overwhelmed by repetative creature sounds, but fortunately the game staggers them a bit. The music is... well its acceptable but I often turn it off completely and either go with the natural sound effects of the world or maybe play the Jurrassic Park theme, because... why not?

Setting: 9/10 The Maps the provide are vast, intriguing, and well designed. Hidden inlets, protected valleys, steep mountain tops and grassy plains greet your every moment. Going under water opens up an alien and harsh world to you. The dossier system seems at the cusp of offering a legitimate story to the game... which fromt he moment you see one of the obelisks in the distance, makes you immediately wonder more about. That's really the only issue I have with the setting really, that there's little to no actual story. But then again what the game does offer in the form of its Dossiers and survivor notes is far more than I've experienced in other survival games.

Gameplay: 7.5/10 The game itself is good. Combat is fluid and dangerous, and pack mechanics of your tamed dinos works great. That said, the game does suffer from bugs. Many of them, the dev team does appear to occasionally go back to revisit bugs, however they are notoriously bad for working on "the next new thing" rather than fixing what's already broke. For what it's worth though, I don't find it unplayable at all. It's difficult at times, but I don't think it detracts from the game. Building structures is a little more nuanced than I think it needs to be, Articulating snap points for your home can often be more art than science.

This is one of the few games that I purchased in early alpha that has completely kept me playing. Multiplayer survival on public servers suffers from typical public server survival game problems of having a tough time of fighting entrenched groups and having no viable way to defend a small group from a larger more coordinated raiding party.

That said I won't lie, as difficult as it can be at times solo survival has me hooked. I love waging a one man war against the zeds as the last man standing, scavenging an entire wasteland. The pure feeling of terror as I realize I've only got a few minutes till blood moon rising on the 7th night and I'm a kilometer away from the safety of my fortress is real. The horde can and will surround you if you're not competent at kiting and keeping an eye on your surroundings, and the locales have significantly improved over the last year. Even after playing for a long time I happened upon a new site I've never run across before... a skate park.

It's far from perfect folks, I'm not going to pitch the pro's and cons but if you're a fan of survival, zombies, a solid crafting system, and a fairly well put together game, 7 days does the trick and I'd greatly recommend it to someone just getting into steam and looking for a fun Survial Title.
