I really like the atmosphere of the game. It's a fun game you can play for an hour and put down until tomorrow.

Most fun I've had since MW4: Mercs, which is my favorite. It's probably still my favorite, but this was a good Mechwarrior game. Early in the game, the 'boss fight' sokol caught me off-guard, but the mechanic wasn't abused or overused. Weapons felt solid. It was interesting to see things from the Clan side.

Frustrating as hell, no checkpoint system means you have to do the entire mission over even if you get to the last section of a mission. If you have lots of time, it's OK, but it's pretty repetitive. I don't have time to waste on this.

I really enjoyed FC5 more than the last few in the series. So, if you enjoyed it too, then you will probably like seeing some of the old locations and what became of them and some of the residents after the nuclear war. It's pretty short, and the 'leveling' mechanic was kind of frustrating at times, but overall I had a good time.

I really wanted to like this game. I think the atmosphere is great, the narrator is a nice touch. I like the different classes and most of the mechanics, but it's too frustrating for me. I suppose I should retreat more often to save my characters, but it just feels like I should be able to finish the quest. I just watched my entire group get killed in the last room of a quest with only one of my characters getting a turn. If it's going to be a grind like that the entire time, I'll just skip the rest. I enjoyed the set-up, though.

I died alot in FTL, but for some reason getting killed in that game was a whole lot more fun.

I enjoyed it. The game is pretty simple, but not in a boring way. Each playthrough starts in a semi-abandoned apartment building with a random set of characters (2-4) and short backstory about how they got to where they are. After that, it's up to you to decide what to do with the group's supplies, and how to get more. Obviously, you'll want to find more food, but building materials are important as well; They keep your people supplied with tools and utilities.

Each day you'll perform certain tasks to keep the homestead and your people going. Each night you'll select a location on the map to send one of your characters to search for supplies, while the other characters sleep or guard the base. Scavenging can become a game of stealth, while you ransack abandoned buildings or steal from your neighbors. However, you can and will probably want to aquire firearms at some point.

The atmosphere is superb, though It can be depressing at times if you think about it too long. In my case, certain characters reminded me of people I know.

The message conveyed to the player is not necessarily or exclusively anti-war, but one that illustrates the effects any conflict might have on the immediate populace. To me, it illustrates how easily all options for survival can be quickly placed on the table when society ceases to function, even in times without war.

If you're like me and enjoyed the original X-Com (UFO Defense) or wanted to, but couldn't handle the 1993 graphics, then I recommend you play Xenonauts. X-Com veterans will find the geoscape and ground combat very familiar, but with an updated interface, better visuals, and new interesting enemies, lore, and technology trees to research. If you were disappointed by the new X-Com: Enemy Unknown's lack of classic features and gameplay, Xenonauts will not disappoint as it is the closest thing I have ever seen to a modern X-Com.

*Spoilers below in this review* If an "interactive" non-branching short story is your thing, then give this a whirl. Remember Dear Esther?
----------------------
TLDR: You walk around in first person hunting for letters and snippets of paper that give you a glimpse into the lives of this fictional family, while uncovering and listening to the main narrative in the form of short diary entries.
----------------------
So, I guess I'll give it the thumbs up since it is well done, for what it is. It's a lot like Dear Esther, in the way that there is no "game", except for needing to find hidden snippets of article, journal entries, and asorted family letters and nick-nacks to advance. Basically, three or four stories unfold in this 2 hour glimpse into the life of the fictional greenbriar family. I'm not going to say it was boring, but that's mostly because I kept expecting something shocking to happen at the end. It has excellent atmosphere and creepy factor as the house creeks and lights flicker with an ongoing storm outside. Also, there is talk of ghosts, and I found myself not wanting to stay in the dark too long. I'm also giving this a thumbs up because it is set in 1995 and it has some nostalgic refrences in the form of band names, tv shows, and things you might remember having or doing from the early to mid 90s. I enjoyed that part. Also, the voice acting is very good.

However, and this is the part where I kill it for you, the main story is basically a high-school lesbian love story. So, if that isn't your cup of tea, don't bother. I don't dislike the genre or this attempt, if it had been a story I could relate to, a real mystery, or even a shocking reveal, I think a game like this could be popular. I suppose I shouldn't give this a pass, since I've thought poorly of games for their story alone, but I don't want to discourage others from trying to make a game like this. I suppose that means I'm recommending it, while not recommending it...weird.
