This game is incredibly over rated, it captivates you at first enough to get you past the playtime that you cant refund the game, but only 10 hours into the game I am already incredibly bored after just one play through, the gameplay loop is very repetitive and the mechanics are much more simply than they look, the starting base barely matters besides the screen you will be forced to look for hours because it doesnt matter where you place anything, despite the looks of it having holes and such implying you should think about it when in reality everything functions the exact same regardless of location, you will never have to fight enemies in your base, instead there is just a flat chance of being "raided" every night and losing items through a text event. I'm sure this game looked good when it first released as there wasnt really any "anti war" games back then, I know that a lot of people think so highly of this game because of its "anti war" themes rather than the actual gameplay, but the game barely even depicts actual war, you'll never see any actual battles besides the ones between your solo character when scavenging and very basic npcs with gameplay more fitting of a mobile game, you'll just be told that houses are being shelled and the military is committing atrocities but you'll never see it, its only depicted through walls of text, which there are very few of, so you'll be seeing the same events over and over again completely destroying the immersion. It feels much less like an active warzone and more like a generic zombie survival/abandoned city setting.
Overall the game feels unfinished and lacking content, normally this kind of game would have plenty of mods to fix that but there are not any real game changers beyond difficulty modifiers, if you like replay value you'll find things boring very quickly, if you value story and themes you'll be blue balled because there is no story or lore to be found.
