So we downloaded this game two days ago after Steam recommended it to me and I can absolutely say I'm addicted. Just going to break it down into constituent parts here:

Graphics: Adorable. I love the dwarves and their little penguin slide. The halflings all look like Sokka. The kobolds are what would happen if a tiny dragonoid decided that Cubone was their personal idol, and honestly, I'm here for it. The tavern design itself is lovely and quirky, and the whole game has a lived in, alive feeling that's hard to get. It makes the place cozy even as you work, upgrade, and change it.

Sound design: Lovely and on point. The soundtrack for the music in the tavern has a great vibe to it and is just calm enough while also working with the more hectic parts of the rush. It fits both atmospheres, which is a hard thing to do; I don't often catch myself relaxing to something one moment and panicking about it the next, but here we are. The voices are great--simple, but effective, and the first time the kobolds came in and started making happy little growls at me I almost lost the round because I kept wanting to hear it again. I admit this may just be a "me" problem, but I genuinely feel like it adds to the overall character design. The little additions of music, sound, and audio cues from throughout the tavern make it easy to navigate the game and pay attention to what you're doing, and occasionally remind you that you >should< be paying attention when you're not. Super helpful.

Gameplay: Simple, fun, and effective. Starts out slowly and can very easily get out of control if you let it. If you enjoy games like Overcooked, Space Lines from The Far Out, and Ship of Fools, this one may be for you. I haven't tried playing with random people, but with a crew of friends this was an absolute delight. It's easy to get in each other's way, either accidentally or on purpose, but it's also easy to have days go by where you feel like a well-oiled machine and feel like a total pro.

This game eats time like no other.

I started a 20 minute "just for fun" run yesterday. I managed to pull myself out of it four hours later. I'm...literally not sure where that time went. I was pretty sure it was only midnight...and then it was four in the morning, and I was somewhere new, with new cards, and there was more to do...

The aesthetic on this game is an amazing blend of nostalgia and madness. I highly recommend it.

My first experience in Valheim reminded me a lot of my first experience in Minecraft: I went in, got pissed, punched a tree, and was murdered by wolves.

Valheim has the amazing ability to surprise me with interesting mechanics and areas that are both beautiful and fun to explore. I've run into any number of tiny nasty things, and some big nasty things, and I've died a lot.

I 100% would do again. And am.

Pretty amusing, and definitely worth the price. Even better when trying to "help" your friends on their dates.
