For reference: I have a core group that I've been with for multiplayer games for the last decade. We rotate through games regularly, but we have a core set of games that are our bread and butter.

Don't Starve Together is absolutely one of those. Building a space as a team, desperately trying to find each other and build a torch before the night beasties murder us--it's magical. It's also uncompromising; if you have that one Mad Scientist friend who will randomly use resources in pursuit of his trade, he's going to get you killed at least once if he doesn't manage to wipe the entire group. Most of the usual Don't Starve rules still apply.

Though the learning curve can be steep, it's a really beautiful, fun game with a ridiculous number of options and possibilities, and is well worth the cost of admission. Klei is very hands-on and communicative, and provides great support for their products.

Stop reading, go buy it.

I've been playing this game for about a week now. As of this review, I've got over 48 hours invested, and I've only just scratched the surface. I still need to dive deeper, mine more, and find scarier things to fight--by which I mean run away from. Quickly.

I can't overstate how absolutely beautiful this game is, how much of a delight it is to go out both during the day and at night, and how amazing the creature design is, even the scarier parts of it.

Like many people, I'm still secretly praying for multiplayer, but even if that never happens I still highly recommend this game. It's one of the best exploration games I've played, and that's saying a lot.

I am a huge fan of the Fables series. I feel the need to add this disclaimer at the beginning, because I know some people are on the fence with regards to this game; some fellow fans have declared that it does not hold true to the tone of the original comics, while others are madly in love with it as a prequel to the first fable book.

Personally, I do agree to some extent: there is a bit more serious tone in this game than is present in the first compiled book of Fables, at least on the surface. But that is as far as the dissonance goes, in my opinion: the surface. The Fables comics have a deep and complex narrative that is echoed wonderfully in all of the installments so far, and I would completely recommend this game to fans of the comics and people who are unfamiliar with it alike.
