I played for a solid 30 hours (split mobile and Steam versions), and the impression I am left with is this game is entirely reliant on itemization. Items which are gated behind lootboxes, and item slots (in the form of character levels), which are gated behind (I cannot express this enough) *VERY* long grinds. Soul-sucking RNG-dependent grinds. I would argue more frustrating grinds than Old School RuneScape. It's either that or prepare to pony up substantial cash to get those item slots, because those levels get exponentially more expensive. This game made me feel gross because of how hard this game was pushing me to buy everything instead of gaining it naturally. What sick mind made it so the only way to get character xp is from lootboxes or what amount to daily quests? Stingy amounts too, considering you don't choose which character gets the xp.

Item management in this game is a mess too. There's no filters for what stats you are looking to boost and there's no loadout system for creating alternate builds, which is especially useful considering there's a 'PvP' game mode with rulesets that will entirely change your itemization if you don't have your characters kitted how you want them at all times. I imagine this is most problematic in the early game when you have few powerful items and need to share them across different characters to get the job done. This in effect makes it annoying as all hell to experiment, especially when you factor in the game needs a brief loading screen every time you go to your item list.

Conceptually, I love this game, but the egregious "micro"-transactions (seriously, some of this ♥♥♥♥ costs more than lunch) and multitude of missing standard quality-of-life features in this game add up to a game not worth playing past the novelty factor.

Don't get me started on the mobile version either, even after buying a small item it was still force-feeding me 20 second ads with tiny close buttons. I had to network-block the ads to stop them from interrupting me between each level. Oh, and it'll turn your phone into a space-heater significantly faster than even round 150+ in BTD6, we're talking before even round 40.

All this said, Bloons TD 6 is a down right treat with basically none of the above-listed problems. BTD6 is often cheaper than a single character pack, and holy heck is it worth it. Same publisher too.

Lotta fun, and a lotta customization. It'll keep ya going for a couple hours, I'll bet.

Fun and cute game, it definitely has potential to be great. I'd call it a solid 'good'. While it's no Gungeon, it's got a solid spread of weapons to keep you interested. Combat can feel a tad clunky, but considering you're building on-the-go and you're far from guaranteed any parts, it makes sense and is part of the challenge and appeal. Many of the positive reviews cover the good in this game, so while my criticisms take up most of this review, do keep in mind I still play this game and enjoy it, so take the following mildly.

Critiques:
There are not many truly long range weapons: (long range here meaning able to reach the edge of your screen) Larger (and usually slower, if you are unlucky with finding engines) you get and the further back your weapons are placed, you really start to notice how much it effects your ability to skirmish. Many weapons just about have to be placed as far forward (or towards the side you want them to face) or their range diminishes to slapping range. While this is a good constraint, it's frustrating to have to place almost all weapons exclusively at the very front of your ship.

The maps and scale feel a bit too small, but this very well could be an intentional design decision. With barriers and planets placed on the map being sometimes rather close to the stage's perimeter, it makes it so your ship can only be 3 or 4 units wide before it can hamper your ability to move about quite a bit. Since your ships generally end up being long and not particularly wide, not all weapons get to be up front, meaning some will have really severe range penalties. I'd prefer it if effective range was increased some, the player camera was zoomed out further to start, map size was increased, and entities/projectiles moved a little quicker to compensate for all of this so the relative difficulty stayed about the same and granting more breathing/building room. By increasing the scale of the game it makes pencil-ships feel less necessary and improve some of the crampedness I feel in this game. Mostly, I just want to play thick beheamoth-class ships without knocking into everything if I've earned the right parts.

It's far from perfect, but it's a ton of fun, especially with friends.

I'd consider this game a masterpiece. It took a little bit to get into, but it was an excellent ride.

Uninspired mech-based combat. It felt more remeniscent of Call of Duty than Mechassault or Mechwarrior Online. As far as being fun, sure, it'll be fun for a few matches. I lost interest when I realized the depth this game's customization lacked, as well as the creativity. Grand sum of 3 primary weapons per mech along with a locked secondary weapon. I'd give this a solid meh/10

On another note, have fun trying to create an account, I had to attempt several times over the course of a few weeks to get my account actually created.

A game from my childhood, complete with terrible graphics and the ability for any modern computer to run. I seriously recommend this game to any who enjoy an RPG with quirky humor and a story worth talking about. Not everything about this game is evident in just one playthrough, and hours can be lost on the Wiki learning more in depth about the story and how the little tidbits of information given to you actually line up into a seriously dark and haunting tale of an alien lifeform came from the dark edges of the universe to infect and corrupt planets until they were destroyed.
