Early Access Review
VRChat's management gives no ♥♥♥♥ about the users of the platform, and is more interested in appealing to the people who will blindly follow their word, and not allow for free expression both on and off platform.

Say what you will about it being laggy, non-VR and products in world costing money (even though it goes to the people who create them, just like with the third party marketplaces for VRC), at least Second Life's developers, Linden Lab, will respect your time and money a far sight better than VRChat ever will. And hey - their client's open source too so you can mod it as much as you like (Within the TPV policy, of course.)

Disclosure Notice: I have contributed voice acting to this game (as an AWACS). I was not compensated in any fashion for this review by the developer.

VTOL VR is the spiritual successor to the infamous Kerbal Space Program mod, BD Armory, created by Paolo "BahamutoD" Encarnacion (d/b/a Boundless Dynamics, LLC). Featuring sim-lite avionics and weapons systems spanning three aircraft, realistic flight models and weapons employment, with systems ranging from your run of the mill IR and laser guided missiles to more advanced weapons systems such as the AGM-88 HARM and JDAM series of GPS guided bombs, as well as a powerful mission and map editor framework.

VTOL VR is the perfect combat flight sim for those interested in getting into more realism-focused flight sims such as DCS or Falcon BMS, without having to spend hundreds of hours reading manuals, watching tutorials or doing training missions, as each aircraft use similar avionics suites for ease of use - or for those simply wanting a flight combat game in VR. As someone who has had years of flight sim (and flight arcade) experience, ranging from Ace Combat to DCS, VTOL VR is the middle ground between the heavy investment of DCS, and the arcade pick-up and play feel of games like HAWX and aforementioned Ace Combat.

With a active community of players and active third party mod development, VTOL VR is a true competitor to Eagle Dynamics' offerings, if you're willing to accept limitations such as small map sizes (around 1/4th the size of Caucasus at maximum without modification of the map data proper), lack of diverse and unique avionics between aircraft, and the requirement of VR with no HOTAS Support (Which even as a long time HOTAS owner, VTOL VR handles really well without them).

With planned official multiplayer support, and more aircraft in the pipeline both officially from Bahamuto himself, and from third parties (A-10 Mod), VTOL VR is a must buy for any new VR user interested in taking to the skies.

This game is a dumpsterfire, especially on Linux through proton. I don't even want to know how it is natively. I wanted to love this game. I wanted to keep it. But ♥♥♥♥ me running - Why is it that the controls can't be rebound onto a custom controller? This isn't even a Linux problem! I wasted 5 hours trying to get the controller to be recognized.

"But you can use Steam Input!"

That doesn't work. Origin hijacks overlay access from Steam and that kills Steam Input if it can't hook into the Direct3D renderer.

"Why are you using Linux? Proton isn't perfect."

The implementations of controller support in Proton are sufficient enough to be on par with native Windows. I've played other Windows games with this controller and had *no* issues. The game from what little time I spent actually in it (2 hours including in menu) The Controller is a generic non-360 controller. Had I known it only supported the 360 controller, I wouldn't be writing this right now and I wouldn't have bought it in the first place.

I also had to deal with steam ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the bed because of me installing a alternate input method (sc-controller) that would emulate a Xbox controller ( And even then, THAT didn't work!)

It's insulting to see that NFS, the franchise I grew up playing, doesn't consider the fact that people use other kinds of controllers and lets us bind them accordingly! It's not even the fact I'm using it on a unsupported OS - I knew that territory when I bought it and I checked with ProtonDB to check if it worked for others!

One job. You had one job. How do you ♥♥♥♥ up controller support? Jesus ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ christ.

Combined Arms doesn't bring much of interest to the table as the systems featured are subpar and it's not presented in the same way as any aircraft. If you want something more to the ground, spend your money on ARMA or get a Ka-50 or Mi-8. Or as one suggested - Steel Beast.

If I could get a refund for this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing, I would.

As a longtime fan of the King of FPSes (Classic Doom can go suck on a Kamikaze Drone), Duke Nukem 3D is back on the scene and better than ever with not just a resurrected modding community, but upgraded version of the Polymost renderer that drove the amazing graphics of Duke Nukem back in my birth year of 1996, taking notes from Polymost's community-made successor, Polymer by Plagman which was made for EDuke32, which is a modern version of the Build Engine made with modern hardware in mind.

Although I have strong reservations about Gearbox's Management (♥♥♥♥ Randy Pitchford, he can eat boot after being shrunk down to the inverse of his gigantic-ass ego.) - This game was a labor of love by the team that originally developed it, 3D Realms. Although they're not around anymore, I have the utmost respect for this team, and for Duke.

Every episode, along with the new one that comes with this version, is presented in a classic 3D style that doesn't fail to impress, given the age of the build engine, and with the game's original episodes - the hardware of the time being able to run this.

Playing Duke is different from your modern FPS, so for newbies - I highly recommend starting on the easiest difficulty with the first episode and going from there. Thankfully the feature I encountered in my first major foray in to Duke3D on Consoles (When I had no gaming PC), is here - the rewind feature, much like the Forza series, allows you to undo your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and try again, rather than having to rely on quicksaves and at worst, starting from the beginning of the level.

Although there have been reports of the audio quality of non-remastered lines (Like those provided by Jon St.John, who does a wonderful job reprising his role), I haven't seen much reason to consider it a negative. For reference, I've played the original Duke through EDuke32 , so suffice to say I'm familiar with how Duke3D should sound, and there's not that much of a difference to raise concern for.

All in all, this is the closest to the pure experience of Duke you can get without having to go through abandonware methods or going out of your way to buy an original boxed copy of Duke Nukem 3D. It's a classic for a damn good reason, so play it before me and my big musclar friend here lay the smack dab down on your ass.

HAIL TO THE KING, BABY!

Some may call this a cashgrab, and they'd be right, but it's a long needed one.

Skyrim and its' preceeding games until SSE and FO4, were compiled for 32-bit systems for compatibility reasons.

Due to how computers allocate RAM for 32-bit processes, Skyrim, FONV, FO3, Morrowwind and so on, could only store away at most with certain variables enabled in the executable - 3.5GB of data in RAM. Now, for the vanilla games this is more than enough, but when you add in things like texture mods, new content from DLCs and mods in general as well, it starts to get quite cramped in there.

As a result, games nowadays have begun transitioning away from 32-bit applications, and nearly every CPU on the market runs in AMD x86_64 architecture used by both AMD and (under license from the former) Intel.

64-bit applications can detect a extremely large amount of RAM, so much that we don't have a machine yet, nor will we feasibly need to have one - that uses that much RAM - 16 EB of RAM, and even then our CPUs can only reasonably accomodate 8TB of RAM - and that's only with a motherboard that could support such a massive amount.

TL;DR - All that SSE provides is more stability with mods and the game in general, and some improved graphics.

As for Skyrim itself.. Well, it didn't become a world-wide phenomenon for ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nothing, now did it?

Note: I have quite a lot more hours in Skyrim than my Steam Library lets on. I would assume I've averaged around 400-500 hours in game.

Do yourself a favor and don't bother unless you either plan to play offline only or play online using FiveM, and even then I'd recommend an.. alternative method of acquiring the game - let's just leave it at that.

GTA Online is an insecure, hacker-ridden and griefer-overloaded ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, developed by a company whose best years are behind them and by way of their benefactors, now spits in the face of their fans and the communities that have formed around their games.

Spend your money elsewhere - don't spend it here. Don't humor Rockstar or Take Two Interactive with a cent.
