So far so good! I'm giving it a thumbs up right now and will update when I've got more time in it.

The game is very good.

Updating this review to say SOny has rolled back PSN account linking! Change your review to positive if you used your review to voice your concerns on that.

A short list of concerns keeping in mind I like the game and the devs:
- nProtect is a rootkit based anticheat that stays active on your computer. I've installed the game on a separate windows partition to give me more control and make me feel better about it, but know the risks before you buy. (A good number of my friends are passing on the game because of this, if it were switched to something more reputable I think they would see even more players being interested in the game)
- There is a premium currency, but the currency is 100% earnable ingame. The economy seems to allow for playing completely free if you choose and you will miss nothing.
- Besides a rotating shop for skins, there is no FOMO for actual game content. Everything added in "warbonds", or a track for unlocking content, will always be available. No season passes.

This game is likely the best rougelite shooter game I've ever played, and a fantastic quake-like shooter as well. Essentially all the weapons are satisfying to use, the enemies are fun to shoot, there's lots to unlock, many ways to customize your difficulty, and the soundtrack is great as well. Highly recommend giving this game a try if you like classic shooters.

After having played through the story once I can say this game is great and I love it. I feel almost anyone could enjoy it.

That being said, Armored Core fans might find it too different than other installments of the series. My perspective comes from exhaustively playing AC3 and watching playthroughs of AC4 and AC5. I don't view the changes as a bad thing because the game is cohesive and fun as-is, but when compared to its predecessors there's some distinct differences.

This review focuses on the differences between AC6 and it's predecessors, so if you've never played an AC game before you can stop reading. Go buy this game and play it, especially if you enjoy Souls/Elden/Sekiro style action games from FromSoftware.

---

Inspiration from FromSoftware's other games bleeds in quite a bit, there are mechanics from Sekiro and Dark Souls sprinkled throughout and the game as a whole:

- Turn speed exists in a way, but the lock on mechanic means for the most part you don't have to manually adjust. This is one of the biggest diversions from the series. You still feel the limitations of your FCS if it is not good at the range you are locking on, and your mech will rotate to target slower if its maneuverability is low, but there is no more "target area" that you have to keep manually hovered over your target to attain locks. It is possible for enemies (both NPC and players) to move out of your view too fast and evade lock.

- Combat tends more towards mid to close ranged action and long-ranged strategies are not nearly as supported, though they are still viable: Overall range of weapons is shorter than other games in the series and most enemies tend to close gaps quickly.

- The stagger mechanic, like in Sekiro, allows for some very burst-driven combat whereas previously combat was more about consistency.

- It's not really possible to go into debt, and you can replay any mission at any time. I do miss the way old AC games worked where you could fail and you had to move on, it made the series pretty distinct as far as semi-linear mission-based games go, but I don't mind being able to load up into any mission whenever I want and try for S ranks if I don't feel like progressing or am stuck on a boss.

- The game now features resupply points, healing mid-mission, and checkpoints. Supply points and checkpoints means you can very easily take narrow builds into a mission and generally not worry about ammo economy and switch things up at a checkpoint if your build does not work. I both like and dislike this; it makes generalist, high efficiency builds largely pointless, but overall makes the game more accessible and forgiving. I'm actually not a huge fan of the healing feature; it cheapens tankier builds as heals are a flat amount and not percentage based, and simply exists to complicate combat as there's no animation and you just have to press a button. I'd much prefer there was a larger HP pool and no healing items.

It's great now honestly, but I can't wait for the mods to start rolling in.

This game's voice acting is terrible.
The writing is on par with B-tier scifi movies.
This plot makes absolutely no sense.
This game has pretty dated graphics.
The monsters are pretty dumb and just swarm around.

I really can't find too much I'd like to change.
9/10
