I only accept friend request from people that have friends in common with me or members of Adult World Gamers as I have been getting too many random requests of late. So if you don’t have at least 1 friend in common and/or a member of AWG don’t bother sending a friend’s request as it will most likely be ignored.

I speak natively Americanized English, have pretty good communication in Esperanto, and can read and write some in German, Dutch and Spanish. Though often I have to use a translation service to double check myself so on those I tend to read/write brokenly if I don’t double check which often I don’t.

I try often to respond in other languages native as well to my Steam friends as I appreciate them usually speaking English I feel it’s only fair but usually more than the basics for most other languages I have to use translation software.

I often, once or twice every couple weeks will do a number of giveaways just because I enjoy doing so.

Capt. Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds: “I aim to misbehave”

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

About me
Hello, Michael, aka Motivia here. I hail from the US, more specifically the state of Kentucky. I noticed my old profile was getting rather dated so figured it was time to update.

I am over 50, and been into computers for over 40 years. My first gaming console was an Atari in the 70s then in late 82 my parents got me a Commando 64. From a very young age I self taught myself to code in BASIC. Within a year or so I had outgrew it and my parents bought me an 80186. Most don’t realize that before the XT or 8088 Intel released a chip with a math coprocessor onboard, like they would do from the release of the 80286 on forward but back in the early days of the PC XT they dropped the math coprocessor to help drive cost down as the average consumer didn’t need at the time a math coprocessor.

Anyway, enough with the Intel history. I self taught myself BASIC, PASCAL, LISP, ADA, RPG, COBOL, and C and then over the years would pick up other languages like c++, c#, Java, Perl, FORTRAN, RUBY, and finally Python which I still use today.

I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis eight years ago, though pretty sure I had been fighting it for a lot longer. My multitasking, short term memory, concentration, word finding, and motor skills really started to decline around 2015 to the point I eventually had to leave the workplace.

I miss being in the workforce. I still try do do some small coding projects and such for myself but it has gotten harder and harder over the past few years. During my time in Information Technology I worked within Software Development, Datacomm, and System Management so at least over my career I got to see a little of everything.

One last tidbit I ran a computer bulletin board system from roughly 85 through 94 and during that time I developed a number of Door games for various BBS software as well as my own programming language called SimCode that I shared with other BBS SysOps that allowed them to write their own Doors software with little to no programming knowledge.

Gaming wise as far as PCs go I mostly started out playing text based games, the Roguelikes, then after CGA monitors came out I played stuff like King’s Quest and Eventually when Wolfenstein and Doom came out I spent countless hours playing them. Then when Warcraft came out me and my best friend spent countless hours playing against each other. I later moved on to games like Counter Strike and Civilization.

These days I enjoy playing with my daughter when she has time. When she was younger we would play Minecraft but these days we play stuff like Diablo 3 together when time allows. She pretty much plays her own things these days but occasionally we will still play Minecraft or Seven Days to Die or such. I raised her as a gamer and even though she is an adult now she still very much is one, though she prefers watching Streamers more than playing.

Because of my MS I have twitch issues in my right hand and leg. Some days it isn’t too bad and I can play decently other days I have to stick to Turn Based Strategy and 4X games which is ok as they are among my favorites as are still good old Traditional Roguelikes such as Angband and DCSS.

On days that I am doing ok I like to play Souls and Souls-like games though I admit that between my age and residual MS issues even on the best days I am not great at.

I have a number of PCs, Macs and various Linux boxes in the house as well as Raspberry Pi’s. But early last Summer I got my Steam Deck in and it tends to be my primary gaming device.

Thank you for stopping by. I am a proud member of the Adult World Gamers community and the Explorminate community so more likely than not if you have come across my name it was from a post on one of those groups or through one of their members. If you are a member of either of those groups I usually will automatically accept friend requests, or if we have three or more mutual friends. Otherwise I tend not to accept blind request unless it’s clear we play a lot of the same games and you have a Steam level of at least 20.

I run across reminders of you daily around these crowded halls of Steam. It has been 6 months but you are still missed by many & remembered by us all.
