Welcome to Fallout 4: Bethesda's 2nd installment of the popular franchise. Yes I'm discounting New Vegas due to that being under Obsidian's dev team


What does it do well?

It brings a real, powerful engine to the table, and works wonders with it, the game, in the right lighting, at the right time looks stunning, maybe not the same as the likes of The Witcher, or other games of the period, but for a Fallout game, it blew me away, even as an avid modder of all of the franchises' games, I found myself enjoying the vanilla experience.

The Creation Engine (64 bit) that was built and trialed on this game, shows full 64 bit support, allowing for expanded memory utilisation, multi-threaded support and general performance improvement over the Gamebryo engine of latter games
It comes with new lighting support allowing Todd(God) Rays all over the place, this is otherwise known as volumetric lighting and makes the scenerally look fantastic.

The combat is fantastic, a real focus on FPS elements leads to streamlined and fast paced combat, with options for patient snipers who pick off their targets also.

The voice actors are fantastic, a lot of emotion, really well done there!!

Modding:
I am a modder, and a mod creator (albeit a little one) the modding community keeps games alive, and has been done here as expected. visit the nexus and fix all your problems, if you get this game, mod it, you won't regret it.

The bad :( :

The story is (okay) but there's such a drive and a focu on it, that doing anything else seems wrong, and for a game with such an expansive amount of content that is REALLY bad.

The RPG elements have been all but removed, the game is so streamlined and tailored to the FPS style that it lacks in quite a few places. the skills have been foregone for a full S.P.E.C.I.A.L system, which may sound good to a few, but for those who want to really tweak their character, this is unacceptable

The voiced protagonist allows for a bit of character to the player, but only for THAT player, there is no room to... well roleplay, the voiced protagonist, the story, hell most of the game is made for a path to saving the Commonwealth and your son, so that asshat character who wants to be evil and kill everyone, forget it, it's very hard to appropriate with this system


Conclusion:
I like this game... I love Bethesda... I always have

But there's so much wrong and so little right and their Fallout 76 title was a mess too...

If you want an introduction into RPG games, look no further, it's streamlined playstyle and simplistic RPG elements make for a truly fun and simplistic experience

If however, you've finished all the Dark Souls games, play games like Original Sin or are just an avid RPG player, than you're better off spending elsewhere

7/10 - Not a timeless classic, not No Man's Sky at release.
