A very good ARPG if you're like me and too old and tired at this point to understand POE's mechanics, but too much of an ARPG fan to really enjoy the lack of complexity of Diablo 4. Itemization is really solid, fantastic crafting system, and the skill system is deep and engaging without being needlessly verbose. Offline mode is awesome for SSF, and the bazaar is exactly what I wished for in 1.5k hours of whispering player after player in POE for trade league. Highly recommend to both new fans of the genre and veterans alike.

This game is basically if Hollow Knight, Dead Cells, and Dark Souls had a weird twisted love child.

In summary, it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ great.

Good game, but it kinda lacks when I love about AC. The assassin element.

I've been a fan of Assassin's Creed since the beginning. AC 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I was the superfan, the diehard AC guy. Until AC3. Super hyped for it, was at the midnight release. Ultimately disappointed. Then came Black Flag, which was excellent. But it all went downhill form there. Rogue was forgettable, Unity was a buggy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mess, Syndicate was boring as hell, and I found myself losing faith in the franchise. But Ubi seemed to be in the same boat.

So they took an extra year, ditched the CoD style yearly releases, and came up with AC: Origins. And ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ does it show. I might be slightly biased, because I'm a huge fan of Egypt, but AC Origins is great.

Bayek is a great protaganist, easy to get a feel for and connect with. Everything he does adheres to his Medjay's code, which ends up being the basis for the Assassin's Creed. (cool af) He's got a great story arc with believable character development, and is one of my favorite protaganists in the series. The supporting cast is forgettable after the main campaign is done, but it's still pretty cool seing big names like Cleopatra and Julius Cesear.

The world is something Ubi never fails to deliver on, and Origins is no different. It's like an Egyptology book come to life, and it's a real treat to explore every corner of it. Add in the educational mode, which switches off all the mechanics and takes you on a guided tour of Egypt and Egyptian life and it's the best worldbuilding they've ever done. It's also factual, which is a huge bonus. I've learned a lot about Egypt I didn't know before, like how the builders of Alexandria marked the borders of the city with flour, which was promptly eaten by the local avian wildlife. Alexander the Great feared this was a bad omen, but was told it meant his city would feed thousands in the future.

The gameplay is more of the same, but that's not a bad thing. If it's not broke, don't fix it. They've brought in a lot of elements from the recent AC games when it comes to stuff like objectives and how parkour works. I know a lot of people are asking for some innovation here but I'm honestly happy with standard AC fare. The combat system, however, is very different from any other entry in the series. It took some getting used to, but it makes Bayek feel much more agile and in control, and from this stems a high skill ceiling.

On top of the combat, they added in Senu, who is Bayek's eagle companion. Putting a new twist on the familiar eagle vision, you actually control her as she flies around, and stuff she sees gets marked, much like in previous games. I'm guessing this bond between Senu and Bayek is the lead in to how eagle vision becomes innate to the Assassins in the future.

To wrap it up, AC Origins is an amazing return to form for the series, and I hope Ubisoft continues to devote the time and resources to future AC games because it shows.

Darkest Dungeon is already an incredible game. But this DLC cranks it up to 11 on all fronts.

Adding a full on campaign meant to be seamlessly integrated with and played alongside with the main campaign, Crimson Court shakes things up and increases the difficulty. A new hero class, the Flagellant, has surpassed the Jester as my favorite hero. An incredibly strong frontline damage soaker, his martyr playstyle is something no other class in the game can emulate. The new disease, the Crimson Curse, is DD's take on the classic case of vampirism; and if left unchecked it can spiral out of control easily. But sometimes the benefits outweigh the risks, with afflicted heroes taking advantage of their bloodlust's damage bonus in battle. Not spoiling anything, but even though it seems like a blessing, it really is a curse.

The new areas within the Courtyard are some of the coolest in the game, and the new enemies are far from just reskins. Their art is incredible and they morph into some truly horrifying monsters later on. The format of the new missions are something really cool and I hope Red Hook builds upon them in future updates, because this actually feels like a long, drawn out campaign.

If you like DD, you're going to like Crimson Court. Plain and simple.
