Fun old style bullet scrolling shooter, bring me back to the arcade time of After Burner and Space Harrier.
game is not too hard and there is a lot of customisation options. shootout to the developer for implementing NATIVE 3440x1440 ULTRAWIDE ! it looks amazing like this !
Only problem that I can see would be that the translation is sometimes a little off !

ORIGINAL THOUGHT

A Rough Start for Vision of Mana: A Hopeful Glimpse Beyond the Flaws

I'll admit, giving this game a thumbs down was a tough decision, but the cons just outweighed the pros. Despite the game's potential, its flaws are hard to ignore. I'm planning to explore more and holding out hope that a wave of patches will sweep in to fix these issues.

First, let's talk about the good stuff. Combat and exploration feel solid, and the story has its hooks, even if it doesn’t stray far from the usual JRPG/Anime clichés. The dialogue can be a bit on the juvenile side, and our hero seems blissfully unaware of the chaos unfolding around them, just drifting along without a care in the world. But hey, who needs self-awareness when you've got oversized swords and magical powers, right?

Now, for the not-so-good. This game isn’t a AAA title, but it’s being marketed—and priced—like one. The textures sometimes look like they were pulled straight from 2015, and some of the effects are questionable. Also don't get me started on the overall geometry—it’s quite light on details, luckily the amazing art direction and the over architecture shine through any flaws the game might have and makes it quite nice to look at, especially the big city after chapter 1.

The real kicker for me is the PS4 compatibility. We’re years into the PS5 era, and yet here we are, stuck with 30FPS cutscenes, minimal graphic customisation, and PC features that are basically nonexistent. No ultra-wide support, no Steam Deck resolution—it's as if they forgot PC gamers exist. Square Enix, in classic fashion, seems more interested in raking in sales than delivering a polished product.

And seriously, in 2024, 30FPS cutscenes? Not cool. Having to hex edit the game just to get proper resolution support and pressing F11 twice every time to get cutscenes to run at 120FPS is beyond frustrating. That’s not something any gamer should have to deal with.

I'm willing to change my review if Square Enix steps up and patches this release, but until then, it’s hard to recommend Vision of Mana in its current state.

SMALL UPDATE

Vision of Mana is a game that delivers an enjoyable and engaging experience, especially if you're a fan of classic JRPGs. The combat, while a bit on the easy side, is undeniably fun and addictive. The wide range of character class customization options adds depth and keeps the gameplay feeling fresh. This is where the game truly shines.

The artistic direction is another highlight. Despite the technical shortcomings, the character and environment art is quite appealing, with a dreamy, nostalgic vibe that captures the essence of what makes JRPGs special. However, the game is held back by some glaring issues. The textures on background objects are kind of ugly sometimes, and the lack of terrain geometry gives the game a dated feel, reminiscent of the PS4 era. This clash between beautiful art, amazing background and poor technical execution can be jarring.

As for the story, it’s generally enjoyable but leans heavily into the "anime" side of things. Characters often behave like children, with the main cast being overly single-minded in their goals, lacking the complex, introspective thinking that would make them feel more like real people rather than just video game characters.

In general, I’m favorable toward the game, but its technical flaws are hard to overlook. Players often find themselves tinkering with files and mods just to make the game more appealing. Coupled with its $60 USD price tag, it’s hard to recommend a day-one purchase unless you’re a hardcore Mana fan. If not, it might be wise to wait for a sale.

No idea about all the negative recent review, seems like in those days nobody can actually troubleshoot some simple problems. game run fine on old and new computer, tested it on a i7 5775C/RTX2080/32GB DDR3 2000Mhz and on a recent Ryzen 7800X3D/7900XTX/64GB DDR5 6800Mhz, both work without any issues at all, even on widescreen resolution. I guess using the configuration menu before playing is just too much for some people !
Also complaining about the mic feature demonstrates people ability to read, you can just disable that whole features 2 click away in the menu !

Great open world game with some fun although "seen somewhere else before" vibes.
Don't really understand the mixed review, game run smoothly without any problem in ultrawide for me.

My Eternights Review
The game was a delightful surprise for me. I approached it with modest expectations, but I'm always eager to try an indie game, especially one that is clearly a passion project created by just one or two individuals.

The story is undoubtedly the game's strongest aspect. It’s evident that a great deal of love and effort went into crafting it, resulting in a touching narrative filled with humorous moments and an engaging plot. One of the standout features for me was the freedom the developers had in their writing, unbound by the constraints of a larger publisher or imposed standards and agendas. This allowed them to infuse the game with genuine emotions, quirky jokes, and lively dialogues, all without crossing into vulgarity or childishness.

Contrary to some reviews, I found the ending to be quite powerful. Many criticisms seem to stem from a preference for typical, Hollywood-style happy endings. This game defies that expectation, offering instead a conclusion that is meaningful and emotionally resonant, making the player's choices feel significant throughout the journey.

There have been some unfounded claims about the game pushing an agenda, particularly the notion that it forces players into a gay relationship to unlock special skills. This is simply not true. The game does not impose such requirements, and any such perception likely reflects a misunderstanding or a narrow viewpoint and quite frankly sound a little homophobic. In fact, the game subtly discourages players from unlocking all the ultimate skills at once, as doing so leads to the "bad" ending with the main character feeling like a dumb playboy, highlighting the importance of thoughtful decision-making.

Regarding gameplay, it can become somewhat repetitive after a certain point, which is perhaps where the solo development effort does shows its limitations. However, the main dungeons remain enjoyable to explore, with well-designed puzzles that add to the overall experience.

In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed this game. It evoked strong emotions and featured well-written, charming characters that drew me in. I am eagerly anticipating what this developer will create next.

Really enjoyed it so far after 15H in. It's very great at retransmitting this feeling of being on a road trip with friends and helping eachother when in need. great interactions between the protagonists.
They've created a coherent and beautiful world to roam around, even being in the car whiles listening to old FF tunes is enjoyable.

The combat is easy enough but hard in it's own way to master, the AI is really helpful although clumsy with magic sometimes.
I don't get why this game received such low critics score and bad blood...

Only complain I have on PC is that the game REALLY favor Nvidia cards and you need a Average to High PC if you want to max out all the setting without having constant stutters.
