It's different.

It's different but it's good.

This cycle is always gonna happen with every new Civ release. It happened with VI and now VII again. I don't think its perfect, but it definitely doesn't deserve the massive amounts of negative reviews so far. I can see how people don't like the UI, but I haven't had any issues with it so far outside of a few bugs. I've had a lot of fun learning the new mechanics and systems so far, and the game definitely has the "one more turn" kind of feeling.

Civ games never carry over everything from the previous game 100%. I feel like it's wrong to expect that of this, but it is very different. I personally didn't follow the reveal cycle at all, so went in blind without lofty exptations or understandings about mechanics and that has made them much more enjoyable learning them in the moment, etc.

70 dollars is a lot! Very valid if you wanna wait. I do think this will become a timeless civ game just like V and VI once people get used to it. Enjoy yourself out there :)

Oh the tech tree/civics tree sucks now cause you can't queue stuff in advance. That's my largest gripe with the game.

pvp is quite literally unplayable. Not worth the money at all, campaign is too short and easy/pve isn't worth the price

Sucks cause I enjoy this game but every single time I attempt to play pvp its just the worst experience ever. Just lost a fight because a teammate recalled all of my units back to base, which was the final straw for leaving this review.

"Rollback Netcode" That's somehow worse than smash ultimate's delay based netcode. Game is pretty much unplayable right now. Will switch to positive review once fixed cause otherwise it feels great.

As some context: I played well over 20ish hours during the betas of this game.

Yes, it does suck that they have shoved a gacha into a $20 game, but its much less impactful than people think. Many characters you would get through the gacha are more so just cosmetic, with some different, but also shared supers here and there (unless your name is Goku of course)

Its pretty generous in how much currency the game throws at you, and you can definitely enjoy your experience without ever spending money on the gacha.

The one main thing that sucks about this game is how bad the PC port is. It was definitely made with consoles in mind, no doubt about it. Use a controller if possible, and don't play on a monitor with widescreen, it doesn't support it. I wish they'd clean up the PC port, but otherwise, this is a very fun and enjoyable experience, especially with friends.

Oh, and for the people whining about not ever getting raider, you have to set your preference before you queue up to be raider preferred. Everyone wants to be a raider, so even then you'll only get it every few games or so, but you will get it as the game gives you a little bit of priority for each game you play as a survivor instead. By DEFAULT the game sets you to prefer Survivor, which is why you never get it.

Over all, I wish I could say give it a chance like I did, though I got to do so through a free beta. Its really quite fun though.

Don't let what the Age of Empires II elitists say sway you from getting this game, its amazing! RTS truly does have a chance for once, it feels.

Yes, there are some accessibility issues like not being able to rebind hot keys. The devs have already confirmed this is going to get fixed ASAP though.

Its a great modern RTS experience, and it doesn't NEED to be like AoE2 to be good. This is its own game, Age of Empires IV. Enjoy it :)

It's very clear the Devs put a lot of care into this project, as much as they could given what was obviously a strict deadline and a small budget.

However, they say they will keep updating the game to get it up to standards, and as of now the gameplay is great even with that week 1 jank.

This game will only get better.
