Contains canon DrakeNieR lore. Thank you, Yoko Taro.

Update 3/29/2024: Finished Endwalker story and god everything up to this point pays off beyond words and I'm just filled with joy looking forward to what's next. Be willing to read novels worth of text, immerse yourself, in the world and you're in for a good time. Absolute pinnacle of dungeon crawlers and MMOs.

You get to pilot a giant robot, stomp around a city, blow up enemy giant robots. Immerse yourself in the rubipolitical role you play in the story and it'll be an experience that sets your brain ablaze with guilt, triumph, and direct dopamine.

This my fave gam, series, universe, director, and story ever. Best experienced with no spoilers and reserving all judgement to the very end (and if you're insane consume all related media after, it goes deep.)

(Tl;dr es good gam) You fight dragons using one of 14 weapon types clad in armor forged out of the corpses of said dragons you have killed. (MHF2™ veteran btw)

The biggest selling points of Monster Hunter™:
1. 14 unique weapons - each basically feels like a different game and are generally well-balanced even the weapons that are not op/broken/meta are fun (I played all of Rise™ on Switch™ with second worst dps weapon still a good time)
2. gear system - fully based on materials you gather from monsters you've killed stitched together to make your weapons and armor all having unique stats and you can very visibly tell what parts of the monster each piece is crafted from.
3. monster design - the fights are finely tuned to be awesome (other than volvidon)
They've stuck with this concept since 2004 and it's what's made this series my absolute favorite.

Monster Hunter Rise™:
The most mobility we've had in the series and lots of trimming down to focus on just the combat, no longer do you need to worry if your hot drink is about to expire. I'm of the opinion each of these games is worth playing for different reasons this one in particular it's the streamlined hunts and ability to zip around like you're Spider-Man™.

Sunbreak™ stuff:
I do find the cutscenes in both base game (specifically village scenes) and the expansion (specifically monster intros) are a bit cheesy same as with World™ but Sunbreak™ does have some nicely fleshed out characters and actually plays on some series themes established prior to Gen 5.

Title Update 1™ for SB™ has some nice additions in quests and builds and I'm looking forward to what mystery monsters they'll bring in the next ones!

Pros:
14 unique weapons
Gear progression
Dragons
Streamlined combat
Best verticality in the series
Expansion story is pretty neat
Cons:
Some design whiplash between base game and expansion but that might be for the better (note to self: move this to pros?)
