My absolute favorite party game. It is fantastic for late nights where everyone is on that thin edge between awake and asleep when you need something simple but with enough jank to cause some hilarious moments. Is it a perfect game? Absolutely not. Is it even a good game? Debatable. But nothing comes close to this game in terms of chill fun with just enough competition to keep everyone engaged.

The soundtrack is absolutely superb by the way.

Let me start by saying that this game is definately not for everyone. It is a bare-bones product right now. There are some promises for more in the future, but that sort of trust in updates is not something everyone can jump on.

The game in its current form is an exploration sandbox, with every planet being a randomized combination of factors that feel familiar but just different enough to warrant an adventure. These planets vary in environment, flora, and fauna ranging from cute cuddly creatures on a lush garden planet to Spore hellspawn on a planet where it rains acid. This variation is what drives your sense of wonder and pushes you to explore and discover everything that each planet has to discover.

Where this game really shines is in its interactions. There are several different alien species that you can come into contact with, each with its own unique language and culture. You must learn to communicate with these lifeforms through direct interaction as well as monuments and other activated devices. This is my personal favorite part of the game. You are almost garunteed to fumble around during your first contact. You only know a few words and must guess what it is that they are trying to tell you. However, as you go on you will learn more words and slowly the things that they are saying will start to make sense. That is magical to me. Its a great way to see the fruits of your exploration actually having an affect on your game.

In all honesty, I have not done much in space. I have exited the atmosphere of the planet I started on but then returned down to the surface. I chose to do so because I do not see No Man's Sky as a space game. Certainly space is a big part of the game, but I see it as more of just a way to move about rather than the primary focus of the game. I feel like that is a huge part of why people have been dissapointed with this game. They were expecting something aloung the lines of Elite Dangerous or Starcitizen. But that isn't what this game is. This game is like a Choose Your Own Adventure book. You are the one that has to carve out your path and decide what to do. This game has no overt storyline or dramatic quests. This game has only two things, a universe to explore and you.

So yes, this game is definately not for everyone. But if you are looking for a beautiful universe to explore and discover, I highly recommend it.

I get paid to beat up animals with my robot arm and then teach them to fly. 10/10.
