Early Access Review
Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor is exactly what it says on the label.

It is a Survivor game, with automatically firing weapons and only minimal aiming input (some guns shoot explicitly forward or backward). Your main task is to navigate your way around the various biomes of Hoxxes and grab anything valuable as you blast your way through all the Glyphids (spider-like bugs) the planet can throw at you.

There's a decent amount of tactical depth with upgrade choices, resource investment... and a unique factor, mining. Normally Survivor-esque games use static maps or open fields - Deep Rock has walls YOU can mine through, creating escape paths and outmaneuvering the hungry horde trying to get on top of you.

Of course the game also features some level of meta-progression, sadly mostly in the form of flat stat upgrades that ever so softly lock you out of higher difficulty tiers if you try them with too few upgrades - but the devs have added some mercy modifiers under the hood recently that alleviated most of the issues that originated from this.

Overall it's a deeply fun game that offers a surprising amount of variety and meaningful choices both build-wise and in second-to-second gameplay. Just don't expect to survive the boss if you slack on picking up at least some movement- and mining speed upgrades along the way.

With quite chunky expansions having already dropped and more being in the works, this game has my full support.

Disclaimer: I also helped with the german translation of the game as a Crowdin supporter, voluntarily and without payment or free access.
