Space Marine 2 is basically a love letter dipped in bolter rounds for 40K fans.

The campaign is a blast, though it feels like they stopped just short of sticking the landing. Still, there are plenty of "whoa, that was awesome" moments. The game-play is super satisfying, but I could use a few more enemy types—and maybe make them less of a "bullet sponge buffet," especially in co-op on harder difficulties.

The setting and level design are nailed down tight enough to stop even Trazyn. But apparently, the hive fleet attacked the only Mechanicus installations that were all out of Skiitarii! It would’ve been cool to see a few of their corpses in the pile with the Cadians. Captain Titus must have a four-leaf clover in his power armor because he somehow dodges every Tyranid that could squish him into space marine jelly. It would've been amazing to see some of the big tech going head-to-head in the background—Titans, Baneblades, Shadowswords, all duking it out with the larger Tyranid monsters like Hierophants. That kind of epic clash would’ve made the levels feel even more alive and intense.

Slight miss on the hive fleet story too it feels like. It just kind of gets dropped, and we dive straight into chaos business. Hopefully, there’s some DLC on the way to wrap it up before the Tyranids start wondering why nobody’s paying attention to them anymore.

not a traditional RTS - similar to Dawn of War 2 but not as good a campaign.

I've never seen a free to play game actually be really free to play until now.
Other companies *cough* EA *cough* should take note.

Path of Exile does its model incredibly well, theres no time gates, no gems to be bought, no wait X minutes for more energy.

A great spiritual sucessor to diablo 2

Review for Steam awards.
If you are new to the series, and have patience, you are in for a great game.
If you are paying full price and you have previously played MOW:AS1 i wouldnt recommend the game.

I'm a massive fan of the series and personally have got my monies worth, but lately the dlc and subsquent rehashes of the game under a different name feel like a cash grab. It's painful for long term fans as, i'm sure most would agree, would love some more content rather than an era reskin and another game released for full price.

AI was never fully finished in multiplayer (not a massive minus, but it was moved to a DLC!! absolutely terrible practice here...) but on the whole the game is QoL changes over Assault Squad 1.

I'm actually updating this review as i've nominated it yet again for the steam awards. I'd love to see an assault squad 3 with a complete engine overhaul, probably hire the developers of RobZ realism mod too - that mod just takes this game to another level.

tl:dr if your into the multiplayer scene of the first game buy it, if your new, buy it on offer. If you played the first and didn't enjoy it... move along theres nothing to see here.
