Nexus Mods Crash Fix Simulator. Obsidian needed meth to release this as good as it was.

Runs great on Linux, but any player will need to duct tape this.

$120au for boring Todd slop. 50 thousand loading screens to traverse randomly generated planets and talk to stale NPCs that have 0 personality.

Get No Man's Sky instead.

Big love-hate relationship with this game.

Helldivers runs on Autodesk Stringray which is an engine that got deprecated in 2018. Arrowhead have been maintaining it while making constant live-service updates for this game, which is an absolutely hard combination and would suck for them.

Performance issues got worse with each subsequent update. R7 5800X3D, RX 9070 XT, the game runs like crap compared to release due to being CPU bound on higher difficulties. Editing the settings file, forcing the game to run in DirectX11 and even moving to Linux gained a lot of performance back, but it's still not great.

The game doesn't feature FSR/DLSS/XESS upscaling/frame generation at all. You either have to use their crappy resolution scaling which looks ugly, use upscaling/frame generation built inside of your GPU drivers, or buy Lossless Scaling. I've had to buy Lossless to mask the poor frame rate.

Arrowhead are focusing on patches that improve the technical state of the game for a few months, which is a really good sign, but it's always an up and down roller coaster. State of the game will be good, then bad, good, bad, good, bad, we're so back, it's so over. I imagine they'll fix it up and then bog Stingray down again.

But the review is positive because I have fun. Even when the engine is running on spit and duct tape, it's always enjoyable. My favourite online games are the ones where ping doesn't make a substantial difference. I play with friends, and I play with randoms overseas. Fighting off bugs with a language barrier between teammates is huge fun. I've encountered drunk party people that use voice chat having the time of their life, people from parts of Korea, America, India, China etc. Feels great fighting enemies with people around the world.

I've never encountered a toxic player, but friends have. The community around this game can also be very loud about issues or complaints and it can put a damper on things, but I always have fun, despite the technical baggage.

Buy it, if you don't mind the roller coaster.
