I really wanted to like this game but I just couldn't. I was always interested in it since it released on Epic Store, but am not going to buy something there so I let it bake. Periodically I would see an article from a gaming journal how it had a significant update or how good the atmosphere and mechanics of this game were.

But in my opinion it falls flat on it's face. I love roguelite/like games. I love Noita, Risk of Rain, Gunfire Reborn, Dead Cells, Returnal, Hades, ect. A high octane shooter that incorporates these mechanics (much like Returnal) sounds like a great concept.

But none of my 5 runs felt different than any of the others. Unless I brought a different weapon they were the same. And I cleared 2 out of 3 of the maps.

Maybe it gets better later, but the pacing is terrible. The first two maps are complete snoozefests and the difficulty is not so much hard as it is tedious because you simply run out of ammo versus die to a powerfully enemy because you are too weak / or not skilled enough / or too much going on that you don't react to the enemies attack in time. So you run across the map to get ammo then go back.

The graphics are good, the gunplay seems nice, and the gameplay (when there is some) is decent but could be better. But the pacing: God awful.

There are huge gaps in doing well - anything. You run around the island clearing points on the map and if you clear them all you leave to do it again. You cannot go everywhere as you are gatekept by certain upgrades initially. You grind essentially for souls to level up at the main hub. The magic aspect of it seems like a sidepiece gameplay mechanic stapled on afterwards.

Truth be told, playing this game just made me want to play Returnal if I want an atmospheric roguelite shooter.

Maybe it gets better, but I don't want to gamble $30 on whether it does. I have a big enough backlog to play. I want to like it, but I'm amazed at how bad the starting experience is.

Its a good game. Devs are just slow implementing new content and balance changes. Just play with friends because Unranked by one's self is straight cancer as people just play the 'Light' class and TDM with no intention of playing the objective at all.

Its a good game. Just needs DLSS for performance purposes (maxes out a 4090 at 4K max settings) and vehicles because sometimes the maps can be a slog to run through.

Works excellent with a dual sense controller. Wired has the full feature set supported and is probably the best game I've used for dual sense. Firing a machine gun is amazing with it.

A lot of VR games give the 'neat' or the 'cool' factor.

But not the 'damn, this is amazing'.

This game gives the later. Its exceptionally fun. Everything I've experienced thus far has been fantastic. And the devs seem great since I've read a few discussions that they've been posting as well. Definitely a game that I'll come back to occasionally after beating it.

Its not a full priced game.

Its easy to get 20 hours of enjoyment from it in the current state if playing with friends. The game, undeniably has a lot of flaws in that many sytems are shallow, non-existent or outright pointless. Its still good fun, but not a complete product. If you come in looking for a bad time you will have a bad time.

Just go until your bored, put the game down for a year, two, or three and come back. Everything will be fresh and the game will be significantly more fleshed out.

A very fun game, but I would recommend playing on a controller if one is a high skill FPS player. The game was designed for a PS5 controller. It is simply too easy for high skill FPS players as precision weapons become massively OP without the natural difficulty of aiming via a controller.

Everything about this game was excellent.

A fantastic game to play in co-op and singleplayer.

Unfortunately does not hold up to the tension or gameplay experience of the first game. Although the first game is a favorite game of mine, I could not finish this as it is simply too tedious and not engaging enough. The narration is awful, the story is awful (and cringe), the main character is awful and the experience subpar compared to the first.

They took the excellent ambiance and sense of isolationism of the first game and threw it straight into the trash can while injecting awful ideas such as tedious overland gameplay.

Quite possibly the best single player survivor experience to have ever been created. Highly recommended to play without any assistance.

Holds up well with age and is perhaps has the most satisfying of mechanics of a Dark Souls, but unfortunately suffered some from repeat bosses. The DLC bosses were excellent however.
