An enjoyable game, ruined by god awful servers that frequently don't let you connect, kick you from matches with friends, and I'd say a solid 30-50% of the time refuse to tally any progress or expirience earned at the end of missions. Even when playing solo.

Campaign has great gameplay, whipping around at light speed using a grapple to fling yourself around a corner and beat a grunt down, then flinging a 'nade or explosive canister at a brute is awesome. Difficulty is relatively well balanced, and the cov-sorry, banished, AI is relatively well designed n make things interesting. If that's enough for you, then grab it on sale. Not at full price. On sale.

Forgive the rant but...Its not worth 90 Australian Dollars. Not even remotely. Nearly a year later and there's still no co-op. There are still bugs that were there on day 1, for example if you have a Logitech headset like I do, there's a 50/50 chance (or higher) that you wont be able to hear anything behind you, or to your sides, and that you WONT be able to fix that problem. This frequently leads to extremely frustrating scenarios where you wont hear the burst of gunfire, or the yell of hostiles that are about to kill you, or the brute rushing you from your side. Or even the excited yell of a grunt as he yeets a 'nade at your feet and sends you skyward. I've been looking for a fix to this for damn near a year, nothing has worked for me so far, and there are dozens if not hundreds of others who are struggling with this too. Halo infinite is the only game I've yet had this issue with. Not to mention the incredibly poor optimisation, with frequent stutters and frame drops, even on the lowest settings, even with decent hardware.

Back to gameplay:
Terrain and environment Isn't varied or exciting. Just grey forerunner corridors in most missions, and a massive, bright green, over-world, with the occasional bit of red themed banished corridors. Its always corridors and flat rooms...
Additionally, environmental design doesn't actively encourage use of the abilities, outside of a few smaller areas. We have a grappling hook, give us an environment that actively encourages it (and the other abilities) use, and don't keep sticking us in a poor-man's interpretation of the library from halo 1...

Story and plot: A brief summary, and I mean no disrespect with this but its trash. Characters are bland and don't have natural progression, with extremely predictable story beats that are not earned. Brohammer is frankly a whiny pain in the tail the entire game, until one conversation happens with chief 75% of the way through the campaign that completely changes his mind somehow.

(Spoilery bit. If you care, skip this part.) Its a shame that it doesn't have a good plot. Atriox, the big bad, slayer of armies and ruler of the new greatest threat to humanity, 'dies' off-screen, after tossing chief into space like he was nothing more than a large, metal, paperweight. Cortana also dies...because apparently, she decided suicide was the best way to stop Atriox somehow, and detonated the part of the ring the two of them were on. A tactic that failed miserably, making her 'death', hollow. Ignoring the fact that as an AI, shouldn't she just be able to copy herself or y'know...move herself to another part of the ring? Throw in Atriox's second in command (the big bad we actually get to fight) being frankly a bland character, who spends more time gloating at chief than actually being a threat, and you've got an absolute train wreck. Oh also there's apparently some bigger threat than the flood, named the endless, that never gets shown, and never gets even hinted at beyond 'yo there's big evil threat, chief must now stop it. Trust us theyre worse than the flood!"
There's...also some character named "harbinger", who exists. She tries to murder chief, in a boss fight so forgettable I...honestly kinda forgot she existed until writing this review.
Also Weapon exists and is apparently meant to be a new Cortana? I guess? Her existence isn't so far as I'm aware, properly explained unless you've read the books and extended lore. She's beyond naive to the point of narrative dissonance. For example, when surrounded by corpses of the Banished you JUST murdered, she asks chief if the big murder-happy brute with a shotgun, flanked on both sides by jackals armed to the teeth, who just came down the hellevator, could be a friend. No Weapon. No he is not. He wants to murder us Weapon. Far out...
That said, there are a few genuinely funny moments with her, its just a shame most of those are shrouded behind walls of frustrating writing :c

Whew, massive rant over. All that said, I do hope I've been informative, and that whoever you are, you have a good day. Best of luck out there spartains, I'll hopefully see you on the battlefield.

A neat, uniquely done 'hold the line' sorta game. Its difficult, and a little buggy, but overall very well done. Price wise, its worth it. Frequent and meaningful updates seem to keep coming in too, with new units being added all the time. Give it a crack, for the price of a cuppa, its a pretty good deal, and itll keep ya entertained for at least an afternoon or two.

To the devs: If you guys see this, keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing what you do with your game, and hope you keep working on it. Also theres a teleporting medic glitch and its funny as hell. Might be worth making it into a reference at a future date lol. Either way, thanks for the fun.

Hehe drill go BRRRRRR. In all seriousness, a surprisingly interesting premise that is astoundingly well executed for an early access game. Give it a crack if ya want.

To the devs: Yall are doin great, keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing how this game progresses ^-^

Game has a lot of problems, game-play mostly amounts to grind for the sake of grind. Devs keep making promises and then under-deliver, or flat out refuse to deliver promised features with little to no adequate reason provided (ship interiors for example. the excuse provided amounting to 'it would get boring to run through your whole ship every time', while forcing several hundred hours of grind to make progress.) optimisation is a joke, and they merged a 60 dollar paid dlc with the base game, providing only a single turquoise universal skin as compensation. Game has a lot of potential, but good lord it isn't currently doing anything with it, seeming to push an infamous "personal narrative" line over and over, instead of adding anything of substance. Aside from that, graphics are great, sound design is top notch, but i cant bring myself to recommend it in its current state.

-Edit: hey, so just wanted to add on here. Frontier has at time of edit, just released their first new ship in 6 years. And instead of allowing players who stuck around to experience and earn that ship, they've put a 3 month wait period in place. That, or you can pay up, to get it now. Of all the things to learn from star citizen why did you pick "charging players IRL money for ships"? I'm sure you'll find its worth it for now frontier, but please, stop alienating your community with choices like this.

I was going to do a rant, and instead realised it would just be easier to bullet point the bull crap.
The gameplay:
-Grindy and repetetive gameplay

-Heists that dont pull in enough cash

-Borked economy with most cars costing a million or more

-Controls that dont make logical sense for a pc port. Who on earth thought that the numpad keys were a good idea to use as flight controls, we have a mouse!

-Constant minor drains on your cash that can f-ck over any new players, and that is designed to be a hidden cash sink. For example paying your mechanic every in game day, paying workers, paying for hangars and other such upkeep. Rockstar, if i wanted to be a buisnessman, I'd get a degree.

-Most setup missions are as follows: Go to a place, get the mcguffin, go back to where you started. Rinse, repeat for two hours until you are done.

-NPC's that will constantly call you and interrupt your gameplay, no you cant turn this off, and no you cant sprint, shoot, aim, or do anything you'd normally do in a firefight when this happens. Oh and some calls cant be ended, and last for over two minutes. No davey, i am not delivering you a f-cking pizza. Youre on an island 200 miles away, and ive got a heist to prep for, and a firefight that im currently in, please rack off.
Oh and i was talking to mates about this, and i kid you not, i couldnt even get through the sentance i was saying, because mid talking about this problem i got FOUR seperate calls from NPC's in game.

Modders:
Ah modders. Since rockstar got their source code leaked by someone, this fun little thing has lead to all sorts of good times. I think im one of the few players who has tried to play legitimately. Ive never asked for cash drops, I've tried earning everything the way the devs intended, through heists and through hard work, but even that isnt possible. Either modders force cash drops on me in order to get me banned, i get crashed, or better yet-and this is a fun bit, I've got weapons permanantly added to my account that i never wanted, or wanted to earn legitimately. The up n atomiser, the widowmaker, and the unholy hellbringer, as well as a collection of melee weapons. I wanted to earn those the legit way, and now, thats gone. As above, ill leave a list of what ive expirienced below.

-Modders crashing my, my mates, and everyone else in the server's games.

-Modders selectively kicking me from the server

-Modders forcing cash drops, figurine drops, and other collectable drops on me.

-Modders permanantly binding weapons to my account. (how...i cant even get rid of them using the custom loadout feature to remove weapons.)

-Modders teleporting to me and stabbing me, tazing me, beating me to death with godmode on, shooting me, sniping me, throwing explosives at me, hitting me with cars, trucks, and any other combination of things that they can do to troll.

-Modders not even bothering to teleport to people to grief them, but instead spawning explosives on them and at their feet serverwide. (How does this even happen?!?)

-A mate of mine was teleported into a cage and burned to death by a campfire that was teleported/spawned into his chest.

-Another mate has had modders rather intimidatingly state that he had a nice wallpaper, implying he not only hacked his game, but possibly hacked into his pc. While i consider this unlikely, and would consider it to just be a dude griefing, its...still not a good sign.

-Yet another mate is on his 3rd strike with Rockstar because hackers and modders keep doing forced cash drops on him. He's about to get banned for something he had no control over.

I should note, this giant ranting thing doesn't cover everything, if i was to do that I'd have a 12 page essay. I guess i just wanted to jot down my thoughts and share them, to see if anyone else agrees, or to let folks know what they're in for. I'm still likely going to play this, as dumb as it is, because my mates play it. I just hope the devs find a way to fix at least SOME of the problems ive mentioned.

ahhh....crap...imma hafta review this properly at some point arent i...

Until then: Takes a bit to get into, buuuut not a bad game overall. The fight for sanctuary dlc is a bit lackluster, but so far ive got...far too many hours outta it. Definitely worth a look, though the 2 hour limit wasnt really enough to get a feel for the overall game.
