Lost Cause 4, Unloaded

🔸 Just Cause 1 was a good game for its time,
🔹 Just Cause 2 set out what a JC game is, and is a great game even now,
🔸 Just Cause 3 had some nice additions but dumbed down a lot of what made 2 great and locked progression behind liberating specific locations.
🔹 Just Cause 4 took JC3 and striped all it had inherited from JC2 then dumbed it down some more before adding gimmicks to fill the void.

Pros:
🔸 The rebels are active again like in JC2. It brings some life to the JC4 world,
🔹 Weapons all have an alternate fire mode,
🔸 Increased variation of military vehicle types,
🔹 3 Customizable grappling hook setups [once unlocked],
🔸 A ‘New Game +’ option, finally, and you will need it to enjoy the unlocks,
🔹 Fixed elements broken by/in JC3,

Cons:
🔸 Individual locations are no longer capable of being liberated.
This previously made even the smallest outpost feel important, now it's just an insignificant few buildings in the middle of nowhere,

🔹 Enemy response escalates to the highest heat almost instantly, not that it tells you anywhere in game what it is anymore. The response is also overpowered with, columns of tanks, multiple drones, choppers, & jets,

🔸 You have no grenades, although the enemy does and can put them anywhere with unbelievable accuracy,

🔹 You have no placeable explosives, this forces you to use huge amounts of ammo on ‘chaos items’, speaking of,

🔸 Chaos items, the key feature of the previous games/franchise have little relevance anymore, they are not needed for liberating/completing mission and the only time chaos is used is to build reinforcement numbers, but this can be over-achieved by defending yourself from the army of enemies sent after you for doing nothing,

🔹 Enemy spawns are broken, I have witnessed troops, tanks and jets pop into existence 20-50m away many times,
Whilst holding the only road to a location at the top of a mountain [cliffs on the other 3 sides] entire armies spawned at the top!
Did they teleport up their?

🔸 Vehicle durability is gone, meaning you will spend more time bailing out than travelling whilst under fire, this is made even worse when you consider the army sent after you, enemy spawns, and the bad physics,

🔹 Ground vehicle controls are erratic, slow speed turns are over sensitive, high speed turns seemingly randomly put you in a drift,

🔸 Tanks have huge turning circles at slow speeds, and drift [seemingly at random] as if on ice during high speed turns,

🔹 The physics are a mess, small impacts whilst in vehicles can put you into huge spins or wipe you out instantly, holes in fuel tanks often have no relation to where the item is being propelled and the smallest/slowest touch of anything whilst in a chopper usually ends in catastrophic consequences, Yes this ads lots of booms but makes progress a chore,

🔸 Most deaths will be following a stun lock or the excruciatingly long ragdoll effect produced by the continuous explosions caused by the overwhelming number of big guns throw at you by the enemy,

🔹 The AI is worse than ever, allies (most notable on the escort/training mission) are not effective or even get involved a lot of the time, and will happily target the enemy vehicle you are stood on or midway through a caned animation to take control of.
The enemy AI drivers are made up of a majority of Kamikaze’s, this looks to be a combinations of drivers trying to run you off the road (like before, which is fine) with the new non existent armor levels creating touch and boom scenarios, although this doesn't explain why many of the enemy chopper pilots fly into my helicopter,

🔸 Most edges [buildings, cliffs, walkways 10cm above the ground!, etc] have an invisible barrier stopping you walking off, forcing a halt and jump to progress,
WHY?
This was never in any previous game and serves no purpose but to irritate the player.

🔹 The HUD is huge, cluttered, shows little relevant information and is either all on or all off,

🔸 Vehicle’s, Weapons, Grappling Mods, are all locked behind missions, challenges or region captures. This inherently isn't a bad thing, but by the time you unlock the gear you will want you will have completed everything, leaving very little to no enemy to use them on or against,

🔹 ‘Stunts’ used to unlock side missions and vehicles, consist of;
1) Drive/Fly/Sail through a checkpoint at a mediocre speed,
2) Drive/Fly/Sail a specific vehicle through a checkpoint to unlock that vehicle [there is most often one with ~50m of the checkpoint] this isn't a challenge, just admin,
3) Wingsuit through checkpoints within a given time. I thought this would be a redeeming feature, something akin to the JC3 wingsuit challenges, NO this is ~3 checkpoint in ~20s,
These are some of the worst content fillers I have ever seen, and can not be considered either Challenging, Stuns or Fun.

🔸 The tornado's, one of the biggest selling points in the trailers.
I saw one during the whole game, and it was in a very late main mission that I just ignored, it had no bearing on me or my gameplay.
What was the point in that then?

🔹 Mission variations consist of;
1) Interact with consoles, stay close to the last one to hack it whilst waves of enemy attack,
2) Interact with consoles, defend a radar dish whilst waves of enemy attack,
3) Throw breaker switches and wait for someone on the radio to tell you the base is ours,
4) Throw breaker switches then cover someone else as they hack a console whilst waves of enemy attack,
There are other variations of above as well as an odd unique mission here and there but they are lost in a sea of console interactions and holding a position against close proximity/impossible spawning enemies.

I know the game claims to be more for the action than story, but as the JC games increasingly insist on locking more of the content behind story progression it has also made the story shallower, repetitive and simple.
This is not a good combination for fun

🔸 A 'Reloaded' rename, that adds/changes NOTHING.

🔹 A 'Complete Edition' that shafts the 'Gold Edition' owners.

⚠️ By now alarm bells should be ringing ⚠️

Summery:
They have addressed some of the issues that came about in Just Cause 3.
They brought back some life to the world by expanding the combat between the rebels and the military, they stopped shotguns staggering you from any range, added alt weapon fire and more variation in military vehicles.

But at the same time they have reduced the relevance of chaos and chaos items, dumbed down missions, stripped anything of note between locations, and removed anything that makes it feel like a Just Cause game.
With most pros being fixes of JC3 issues or reverts back to how things were in JC2, JC4 in all feels like a step back, off a cliff, without a parachute.

I played JC4 to the end, completed the side missions, and most of the challenges so that I can give a fair review of the game. I had some fun, but to get it I had to go looking.
My most prominent memory of the game is travelling distance with no action to be told to interact with a few consoles until the mission was completed and I could click a region to capture it, and repeat.

I got Just Cause 4 on the Epic Games store, I'm not joking, FOR FREE. I think the only thing they did better in this one was:
1: Better vehicle variety
2: Performance fixes
Thats it.
I also agree with you about the weather. It was HEAVILY used in marketing, and its super underwhelming, and the lightning storm and blizzard seem basically the same, just the blizzard is snowy.
