Evan's Remains is .. a strange little thing. Not fantastic, not terrible, but it may make one pause - and not for the puzzles. Gameplay wise there is very little, a dozen puzzles or so, and none particularly difficult or interesting, which is what makes the game harder to recommend.

The art however is pleasant, the music pleasant, and the story.. pleasant too, I think.

There is just one particular thing.
This one little nuisance thing.
This one heccin independently fine, yet constantly reappearing PALM TREE.
In the foreground. Sometimes mirrored, sometimes right next to itself. With no variation whatsoever, and nothing else of a similar style to distract from it in the foreground or otherwise.

There is not much that needs to be said to suggest Baldur's Gate 3 is a solid game. Plenty of character, dialogue, story, content, effort, and dedication. In-game books with information relevant to the world. Combats that benefit from awareness and forethought, and combats that do not need it. Playing the previous titles is in no way required, but there is plenty of tie in to please players of old and to not make them irrelevant.

There are also flaws. Hiccups in speech, combat, camera and animation - though generally not game breaking. Some questionable dialogue choices, some strange writing decisions big or small. AI that's not always willing to avoid floor hazards or stop walking when a trap is spotted. Some quality of life improvements that could still be made with inventory and skill use. Awkwardness in any combat with heights, particularly multiple floors. Further tidying up of world item clutter. All sorts.

But overall Baldur's Gate is a city of content. It needs some straightening out still here and there. Perhaps some streets need cleaning, or some unsavoury characters still lurk in the alleys. It is a large city, and it is difficult to catch all the troublemakers. Larian Studios put forth a good effort bringing all of it together, and I imagine there was some excitement getting to work on the third Baldur's Gate both after this long in the business and with how treasured the originals are to some.

I finished the game slightly unhappy, some.. arbitrary binary decision near the end that didn't fit at all with what had been set up and a little lack of closure interactions with all the friends made along the way, but overall still pleased with the game, if a bit exhausted from the final sprint. Caught a glimpse of that finish line too early, when there were still some laps to go.

Also, most importantly: about the same playtime as Elden Ring and I didn't have to spend any of the time pointlessly riding around bloody coasts and empty fields.
Or you get to pet animal friends. That's also pretty important. And I am glad lots of people are enjoying their time with the game, and with friends too.

borb

There is probably more relevant information, but primarily: borb. A nice well rounded borb. Smooth feathers, solid umbrella, collection of shinies and seeds, and violence when necessary. A nice well rounded game, I mean. All of that, but game. I won't say perfect, it doesn't stand out in the mind as much as say Hollow Knight might, but it is a very respectable creation. Some nice lil frens too, and a tentacle fren.

Crying Suns for the most part is a .. slightly more involved FTL, with different combat. You select your path through the stars, encounter various events and fight off other starships. The slightly longer and more story focused gameplay loop makes the game a little harder to replay once completed even with the different ships you can unlock. Not overly complicated, plenty to see. Perhaps need more variety or chance rather than single path encounters.

It may be true that the planets and stars will not mourn our passing, but it will not hurt them for us to save one another either.

Elliot Quest is another game that may appeal to a select few. It is not bad, but it is rough and lacking in some conveniences in favour of being.. authentically old fashioned. There is joy in the exploration and uncovering more areas, but in other regards many secrets are just more coins, and can come with a lot of backtracking with no fast travel to ease the process.

As an extra note, respawning on half health is.. cruel. Especially as the checkpoints work as a respawn rather than a save state. If you want to go into a boss fight on full health or with your potions, you need to do so first try. Making learning some boss fights a particular nuisance. Especially later ones that might just insta-kill you as you walk in, or do enough damage to two shot you in general.

Again, I can appreciate a lot of what is presented, but perhaps.. a little more leeway or information to the player sometimes. Less 'get gud'

Noita. Single pixels hold life and death in the balance as much as they hold one's impression of the game.

There is treasure to be found, power and secrets, but you will be cheated. Speaking plainly the game is quite frustrating, so very many deaths are just "Oh. Okay. Guess I start again then", but it is also quite addictive. Theoretically the structure is fairly simple: you want to reach the bottom of the dungeon and beat the boss. You explore each floor as much as you can for loot and move on when you either finish exploring or can explore no longer.

However throughout most of my playtime I was bogged down by the hints of more. There is a wealth of exploration to be found on the surface or outside the regular bounds. Which way should I actually go, maybe there's something to be found there. To be fair, there is, but it's not important. Not.. important enough to worry about. If you can't make it to the bottom of the dungeon, you probably don't need to worry about trying to get through the dangers that await there either.

After using a few mods to clear the game and explore more freely, I find it easier to try play and enjoy the game as is. Though I would still take XCOM or Dorf Fort over some of the 'fun' offered, and many of the faults are still inherent to the design of Noita, they grate less when the rules are laid out. So in general I will say many will not enjoy their time with this, but there is a fair amount that garners interest too if it happens to be your forte.

An artist could wander these lands, seeking the perfect painting.
An adventurer might find the vistas wasteful and wanting.

Papers could be written on why Elden Ring's particular mix of elements is.. sub-optimal.
And I.. just.. *withering sigh*
But.. perhaps I am tainted by previous games and expectations, and the history of video games in general. At least somewhat.

Solid game. Some beautiful scenery and a reasonable set of characters. Could do with a fast travel system for if you decide to want to collect all the coins. Ending leaves one wondering if there could be more.

As a note, keyboard controls did not want to cooperate. Could not jump and was forced to use controller.

As was prevalent in the original, Trials is much about the physical threat, the need to run, than a build up of suspense and dread. And it accomplishes this quite well. Plenty of running around, scraping together resources to patch up mistakes and make your way forward.

Cooperative has proven entertaining, at least so far with one other player. A decent mix of self-sufficiency and working together. I could see solo play being.. frustrating with some situations and lack of extra distraction power another player provides.

In general everything seems pretty smooth. A nice lobby area where you can assert dominance with arm wrestling and decorated prison cells. Plenty of unnecessary gore all over the place. Some of the AI can be too aware of your location even when 'unware', but most of the time aren't too bad. Like most coop games, particularly early access, the missing feature is content. Time will see how that develops, but what they have now is pretty good, and I appreciate the enemies with different advantages/disadvantages.

Become perfection?
