Short, sweet, and really well-made.
Simple as that.

Disappointingly unfinished at launch, and it feels bare-bones when put side-by-side to the original Among Us. No settings for lobbies (aside from setting it to public/private), just one map, and a lot of nonexistent tasks that were present in the original game. Public lobbies are

I wanted so, so hard to like this game, but I just can't. If they fix it and make it better, I'll delete this review but until they do, I'm just sad. Why don't developers released finished games at launch? Surely they knew that this wouldn't be very satisfactory, right?

Unfortunately, I can't personally say I recommend Volcanoids yet.

When I buy a game, I expect ANY form of in-game tutorial to assist me in getting used to a new game, even something basic. And while Volcanoids DOES have somewhat of an in-game tutorial, it is barebones and hardly helps the player along. It touches up on some player basics which is nice, but doesn't provide nearly enough information on how some equipment/gameplay mechanics work.

If I have to rely on websites or other sources of information instead of the in-game tutorial (or alongside it) then I generally have a poorer experience with the game and I'm unlikely to give it much of a shot. If this is changed in the future, I'll buy the game again and rewrite the review in a more positive light.

TLDR; Poor in-game tutorial = hard start and unfun to get into.

Slime Rancher 2 has totally lived up to the expectations I had for it. The graphics are fancy and colourful, bringing with it a brand new, stylised Slime Rancher game. The atmosphere was nailed perfectly for this game, too. All of Rainbow Island feels highly atmospheric! By day it's nice and cheery, but by night it's calm and brooding, making for a stark contrast I absolutely adore. Overall, Rainbow Island is incredibly unique and I'm looking forward to seeing it expanded upon over the coming years! Also, the slimes look the best they have yet, and I'm loving the physics. The new additions to the roster are very cute and integrate well into the existing Slimepedia!

I'm writing this review on version 0.1.1 of the game (AKA the first version), meaning there is a notable lack of content and polish in some aspects of the game, though it's super easy to just ignore/work around them for now! A lot of current gameplay just feels like Slime Rancher with a fresh coat of paint. Hardly anything introduced in the first game has had a significant change or improvement in the second. Even the sounds from the first game are directly reused... Because of the unfinished state the game is in, I can't say I believe charging the full priced 40$ (CAD) for SR2 is fair yet, so I'd perhaps wait for a sale or some more updates before purchasing.

TLDR: Great game, just a lack of content and minor lack of polish for certain elements on launch. Price is also a bit high and relatively unjustified.

Beautifully Bold

Absolutely exceeds my expectations.

No Man's Sky is legitimately one of the greatest space-genre games-- if not THE best. So much to do, so much to see. You'll be awestruck for hours and quickly caught up in the surprising amount of content there is to see.

No game is without flaws, and No Man's Sky is far from an exception. Performance issues and graphical errors can be commonplace, and this game is hardly recommended for older PCs. But-- the dedicated developers behind No Man's Sky are actively working on patches and new content, and you can generally expect entire heaps of new things to see and do every few months.

Overall, this game is absolutely worth the price, and serves as a perfect example of space-exploration done right.

A fun and challenging 'rage' game with a plethora of sneaky tricks up it's sleeve. Tons of random events and little extra bits make for some mild repeatability on certain levels.

Only dislike about this game comes from level 7 (Baby Come Back). If you don't beat it the FIRST TIME you enter the level, you're subjected to multiple bouts of suicidal relevant content, which has no content warning whatsoever. I advise people who are sensitive to that content to simply skip over it.

Overall, 7/10.

Dying Light is the optimal zombie apocalypse game.

Please note I'm writing this review before Dying Light 2: Stay Human has been released, so this review is irrelevant to the quality of the sequel in every way.

Dying Light has one of the richest open world experiences to offer. Entirely driven by parkour, fast paced action, and creative weaponry; Dying Light offers that 'full-speed-ahead' zombie slaughtering action everybody craves.

It features unique parkour mechanic which keep you on your toes, with each skill point spent adding something new to your almighty arsenal of momentum.

If the gameplay isn't enough, then you can always invest time into the beautifully written characters and story. From Jade Aldemir, to terrifying tyrants like Kadir Suleiman (better known as Rais , each individual adds to the quarantine zone, and gives emotion to the slums that otherwise would be pathetically drowned out by the slaughter you bring forward without thought or mercy.

Minor Spoilers Ahead!

From the get-go, you learn about your new home, The Tower. It's where you learn about Rais and his men, Antizen and it's deep impact on the groups that need them, and so much more. What's worse is your origin, working for the GRE (The Global Relief Effort). You're an unwelcome mole, turned valuable asset and ally, trained to be the best you can be.

Significant Spoilers Ahead!

Eventually, it becomes clear that the GRE is not your friend, and Crane (aka, you.) decides it's in his best interest, and the people's best interest, that he turns against them. From this point forward, he is essentially working blind, with no outside information coming in anymore. You see this impact on Crane, as his personality shifts slightly, as he understands The Tower and it's poor inhabitants are all that he holds dear anymore. This personality shift continues into the end-game of the campaign, where Crane has fully adapted.

END-GAME SPOILERS FOR MAIN CAMPAIGN AHEAD

Finally at the climax of the story, Crane has lost plenty of his friends along the way. Rahim, Dr. Zere, and more. He stands before his last hurdle, the only thing holding him back from saving thousands of lives, Rais . Rais is now working with the GRE, which goes to show Crane made the right decision to betray them. Finally, after hours upon hours of questing, learning, and getting to love the character, you get the sweet, sweet sensation of revenge . Killing Rais is officially one of the most satisfying moments in my history of gaming, and even that I find an understatement.

Overall, Dying Light is a beautifully written game, with plenty of content, and love put in from the developers. Additionally, once the main game is finished, there are PLENTY of extra side quests that net you even more upgrades, XP, and resources. If you ever have the chance, please do give Dying Light a try.

My Aseprite Review:

Aseprite is a great pixel-art/pixel animation software, for both new and experienced pixel artists.

Aseprite has many of the features one would need when getting started with Pixel Art, or Pixel Animating. It has symmetry options, a variety of art tools, finite pixel-perfect options, and much more. It has an overlay and menu system I absolutely love the style of, and it is very simplistic to use, but can be outfitted with plenty of more advanced tools and utilities.

Overall, if you're looking to get into Pixel Art, or just want to use a program that simplifies the process and makes Pixel Art making easier, Aseprite is a great program to use.

9/10
