I love this game, but don't buy it until they patch out whatever issue they've recently caused that has tanked the game's optimisation.

Simply put; it's Monster Hunter. If you've played a different MH game you probably already know where you stand in terms of whether this game will be fun for you. All the weapons I've tried feel good, the areas have good flow and have good interactions you can take advantage of during hunts, and Proof of a Hero gives the same dopamine you would expect it to.

QoL has gone a bit far with the seikrets invalidating paintballs and mostly erasing the hunting part of the game but I'm willing to forgive that for the sake of not having to at times wander aimlessly hoping my quarry will at least wander past soon. Gathering is about the same experience as World, which is a nice change from previous games, a much more unambiguously helpful QoL change in my opinion.

The new monsters are quite welcome and fun to fight, returning monsters are welcome to see and it's interesting how they've blended mizutsune versions together, for example. There's only a couple I don't like to fight (looking at you pink DK and fire DK) but part of the beauty of a game like MH is that you largely get to pick your own poison, so those annoyances are a tiny minority of my time playing. Throwing in a couple more monsters (glavenus please, pretty please) would be welcome, but there's always room for another monster.

Weakpoints are a welcome addition, though I do think they come about too quickly. This is an easier MH among the pile, but new content can always ramp up the heat same as previous games. Overall I find weakpoints pretty satisfying to make use of between hunting horn getting the chance for quick note entry allowing for faster buffing/combos and charge blade turning into a dopamine chainsaw of numbers, so if they become harder to create in later (harder) content updates I think they'll be able to settle quite nicely in terms of dopamine vs difficulty.

As I mentioned earlier though, a somewhat recent update has made the game run noticeably worse, to an extreme degree for some. I do think this is in some ways fairly overblown, but I've also been spared from the worst of the performance hits it seems (I had a similar experience with Cyperbunk on PS4, so I might just be lucky with this stuff) so consider how much you are willing to deal with before you buy the game as things are currently. I'll be shocked if a fix doesn't come for this soon though, Capcom has surely noticed the negative effect it's had. Until then, I wouldn't really trust the benchmark as a good guide for how well the game will run for you as whatever has caused this is likely specific to just the game itself.

Wish there were more games like this! Would love a single-player campaign sort of thing with this game's combat system, it's so fun.

Great community, great game, great maps, great music, great customisation options, great weapon selection, everything's here and I instantly fell in love from the very first hour.

An alright fishing game, you're getting most of what you pay for. I've basically just been zoning out while crashing from caffeine for my playtime and don't think I'll play much more of it, it simply doesn't grab me.

I've enjoyed my brief time with the game but it never truly caught my attention beyond a mild interest, it could absolutely be your dream game if you care enough to read reviews though.

Be warned though, I was expecting more animal crossing vibes but what I got was alot of furry stuff that looks and feels like what you'd expect out of a teen that built their personality around furry subculture and it gets unnecessarily political. It's $9999 just to be able to title yourself straight ($75 for any other orientation) because sure I guess.

It might be your thing, but evidently the players you're likely to meet are part of that specific twitter clique which is a shame considering it's meant to be a cute fishing game otherwise.

Between a yes and no rating I wish I could give this a maybe, because no feels too strong but I also have no strong feelings on the game regardless.

A great game slowly turning into a case study of why you need to maintain your online games.
Love the game, love the community, I even love playing MvM despite it's flaws. Pity that the sheer amount of bots and Valve's total inactivity is steadily killing off the player-base and burying the game in a shallow grave.

I guess Valve simply makes too much money off the loot boxes to care.

Just play X-plane or the previous microsoft flight simulator on steam (with graphical mods and such).

This is a really good simulator, great even, but just too much hassle to recommend another person be subjected to it.

If you're game, braced yourself for the downloading issues, and are working with a powerful gaming rig, you'll have a good time. Otherwise, you'll just waste your time and effort.

Extremely basic and feels like an open beta, but it does show some promise.

Core things missing would be:
- Controls menu (I had to largely guess what controls were)
- Further customisation (Can only change weaponry currently)
- Multiple maps to choose (Gets repetitive fast)
- Controller support (With a game this basic, it's not that hard to include)
- Proper enemy deaths (They just stand there or maybe fall over due to engine physics)

I bought this for $0.90 AUD during a sale and I'd say that's the perfect price for this in it's current state. If the devs want this to be worth a wider audience and the standard asking price, as a peer they need to get back to work.

A small and (comparatively) cheap AC game that's way more fun and interesting than modern offerings. Essentially a mini black-flag condensed into a tighter package.

I'm pissed that I waited so long to play it, but experiencing it for the first time in 2023 really put things into perspective for how far this franchise has fallen. Hopefully more creativity can be re-injected back into Assassin's Creed at some point.

My only real complaint is the abstergo nonsense, that side of the story-line should have died with Desmond Miles and it's always been a simple contrivance that halted the flow of the story after important story beats and feels like wasted time every time. Do something interesting with it (like with desmond miles) or just don't put it in my face to begin with,

Rapidly became my favourite game.

If you're looking for the slow pace of dark souls, keep looking.
If you're looking for the same style of difficulty with a much faster pace that respects your time and not only lets you but wants you to try every wild idea you could have with whatever stylish flair you wish, you're in the right place.

Mecha isn't for everyone admittedly, but I've never seen a more triumphant return on a genre than this.

In terms of game design I can find no flaw, and it all flows so gorgeously between different builds and bosses that the harsher difficulty spikes are less roadblocks and more the kinds of challenges that you only emerge from stronger and better in many ways than the person that started them.

Some advice before you start so you don't get caught up in misunderstandings:
There's no i-frame dodge-rolling
Staying on the ground isn't necessarily a good idea
The sword you start with can carry you if you use it at the right time
Stagger is a thing
You don't need to use the same build throughout the game, experimentation will get you far

It's hard to review this game without a commentary on the industry as a whole, it's that good. And the industry knows that.

I have played for over 20 hours at the time of review and have literally no complaints. Granted, this is a game I expect to put ~100 hours into, but I feel I have seen enough already. It's simply an experience worth the cost of admission and more. On top of all that, it's a game that didn't need any updates or DLC to be complete, you simply pay for the game once and you're good. Perhaps antiquated in the eyes of the industry at large, but far more ethical and consumer-friendly. Take notes, Acti-Blizz.

Setting aside that indie and AAA devs have seen this game and panicked that suddenly gamers are going to have the standards we had in the days of the sixth console generation again (but with higher graphical expectations of course, but it really has been that long since gaming peaked in terms of game design and such), but it is a game that seems to have been made entirely ethically and without any unethical intentions (season passes, in-app purchases/microtransactions, live service, etc.) and allows for sufficient player choice that it hasn't even had a political circus around it.

The gameplay style may not be everyone's ideal but between this and elden ring, gamers are well taken care of despite the best (or is it worst?) efforts of the majority of the industry.
