♥♥♥♥ I want to like this game more.

It shows promise, but the little I played is either derivative or pushes jokes too far to the point that they just get annoying. After that, it suffers bugs that simply kill any interest I had in playing further to the point that even after trying to use cheats to simply get around the bugs, they simply caused more and worse bugs.

The devs clearly tried hard with this, and that honestly just makes it sting all the more. Especially when this game so often misses the point regarding what made Postal 2 so good and distinct.
It's too enamoured with the idea of being a postal game but has enough genuine and interesting ideas that it could genuinely work but the execution simply falls too flat too often to carry me along through the bugs.

An already fun game that I can already forsee becoming legendary through modding. Warhammer miniatures, the entirety of Tamiya's kits, gunpla, airfix, there may well be no limit to what models you could put together in this fun little gem while ignoring your very real model backlog that you swear you're going to get around to building soon.

My only complaints are the stickers and airbrush as orienting stickers correctly feels like it could use a bit of streamlining and the airbrush doesn't paint very smoothly, instead it just places a circle of colour, waits maybe one or two frames and places colour again so if you're trying to paint a large area quickly with the airbrush you're going to be in for a long process.

tl;dr
I love this game and am extremely hopeful for a thriving modding community but it has minor issues that could be fixed fairly easily.

This is a mandatory game to own or play at least once. This game set the foundation for every truly 3D FPS game since and yet runs circles around most $60+ games that the AAA gaming industry has put out in the last 10+ years.

It's a fast-paced arena shooter with an amazing soundtrack, varied enemy types that clearly inspired enemies in other high-profile games like the head-crab in Half Life and so the quality speaks for itself. It's the game that started rocket jumping and popularised speed-running, saying it's good is just a formality.

The only complaints I have about the game are that it also started the trend of fps games being shades of brown and grey and that the series has been horribly mishandled lately with the disastrous Quake Champions, yet Quake's sister series DOOM has been rocking the world yet again. It's time for Quake 5.

The only reason I have under 1000 hours clocked is because I've been playing a source-port instead due to the steam version originally have audio issues, so my addiction has been able to be kept secret. That issue was fixed and the game has received multiple big updates that now make the steam version the definitive version, so the start of this paragraph isn't going to remain true for very long. I'm mainly posting this review as a point of reference to see how long it takes me to hit 100 hours.

This rapidly became my second-most played game on steam out of my library of over 300 games for a very good reason. Take everything good about WoW, remove all the bad parts, add ethical developer practices and a very passionate and skilled lead and you get FF XIV.

I'd explain what the game is like, but the free trial will show you far more than my words can. Even if you're not interested in the game, just want to know what it's like, you should play the free trial.

I wouldn't suggest buying it outright, play the free trial first since that'll give you more content than alot of other games and then drop money on the game once you're at the end of the main questline in the trial so you can get a better idea of what you're signing up for. If you're in Oceania, you'll have to go with a Japanese server for now until we get our own servers, but the players I've met in the game have been far more skilled, kind and welcoming than any players I've met in any other community. Japanese fluency or constantly having google translate open is recommended.

Nothing else to add, so here's a copypasta to spam everyone you ever meet with once you become just as addicted to this game as I am:

Did you know that the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV has a free trial, and includes the entirety of A Realm Reborn AND the award-winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 with no restrictions on playtime? Sign up, and enjoy Eorzea today!

10/10 would barrel-roll a Boeing 737-800 on approach to a landing strip with horrific consequences in VR again.

Also very moddable and very fun.

It's Half Life with better graphics and is more stable in my experience.

Mechanics are solid, gameplay loop is great, nice variety of sections from combat pieces, platforming and puzzles to exploring. Every weapon is useful, nothing feels underpowered or useless, exploration is rewarded, so is attention to detail, and ammo is scarce enough to stop you from going ham on everything but common enough that you don't have to worry too much about wasting ammo which pushes the player to use the most appropriate weapon for the situation without being too punishing.

You don't need to be told all this, you likely already know what you're in for. Buy it and enjoy, it's hard to not have fun with this game.

Probably the best spectacle fighter thus far. Just buy it, we both know you're not going to read the rest.

---------- DLC ----------
Some of the DLC takes the piss, being essentially just microtransactions, but there are some gems such as the soundtrack and being able to play as Vergil that, while it would be preferable if Vergil was either free or an unlock, are much more justifiable to actually spend money on.

--- CUSTOMISATION ---
Basically, customisation is locked behind a pay-wall and what is available to purchase isn't much to miss out on.

------- COMBAT -------
The combat is very well executed, with each character having their own tool-kit to beat up things up that is unique enough to make each character feel unique while still having the controls standardised enough that playing a character for the first time is quite easy.

The enemies are a very welcome variety that keeps annoyances to a minimum while still being able to ramp up difficulty without just throwing more and more damage sponges at the player. Each basic enemy has some level of synergy with the rest of the bestiary and their animations are well-designed to provide the player with their attack patterns without being too obvious.

-------- STORY ---------
It's good. Also I'd like to point out that V came up with Urizen on the spot, which is both hilarious and genius.

-------- MUSIC ---------
If your ears aren't ringing, it's not loud enough.

There's no better feeling than launching a satellite into space only to find there's somehow still a single barbarian from the start of the game several hours ago just standing there in the one bit of the map you didn't go to.

Who knew slavery could be so much fun?
From the learning AI to morality system, this game is small enough to be blasted through in a day but deep enough to keep you coming back for replays and has what seems to be a pretty fair RNG implementation.
Also the soundtrack slaps.

A game about stage-diving dragons with a set of bagpipes, or any of the other, inferior, weapon types.

In all seriousness, absolute blast if it doesn't detonate your graphics card. My only real issue with the gameplay is that the defender weapons dumb down the early-game considerably now that they've been added.
