Some of the most fun I've had in a dedicated co-op game in a while.
It's double the fun when playing with friends who've been in the service industry as it evokes those memories, (good and bad), in such a fun way.

While Overcooked may have challenged your ability to logistically adapt to a wild environment akin to a puzzle game, this game will challenge your long-term planning skills, efficiency, and logistical minds in an operation that grows gradually over time. You can't blame the game for your inefficient kitchen setup, you can only blame yourselves!

Genuinely challenging, incredibly rewarding, and addictive to its core.

This is not ARMA 4, this is the foundation for it!

With that out of the way, understand that the future is bright for ARMA, as long as we support it. The state of Reforger now is already better than what we had in ARMA 3 Alpha, (I was there, I know).

We have a vanilla-state game that is leaps and bounds over what the previous iterations have offered. It is no direct replacement to ARMA 3. What this allows for is the creative community to experiment and tinker with the new tools that will be the norm by ARMA 4. Have the community prepped, so that when ARMA 4 does come out, we can hit the ground running.

For all the mod devs and community heads, you already know this is a no-brainer purchase. Getting your hands on the future early is a necessity.

For the players, it's up to you. Do you want to test out what the community is gonna cook up in the next year? Do you want to support the development of ARMA 4?

I do, and that's why I'm supporting it with my purchase.

The best line battle simulator made to date.
The addition of conquest has transformed this game from a static battle game, to one of maneuver and violent contact.

"The decision that won the match happened 5 minutes ago."
======
Plenty of people have already spoken at length about the neat E-WAR features, as well as the realism it approaches with its semi-Newtonian space combat.

However, I want to highlight what it's actually like to play this game against players - and why it scratches an itch that other RTS's don't.

The opening of the battle usually opens with both sides looking for each other. Scouting in a race to be the first to find out where the enemy is - racing to gain the first bit of initiative. But unlike games where micro is the deciding factor, the movement is slow enough that your moves must be pre-meditated.

Questions need to be answered: "Where are they?", "What are they?", "Where are they moving?", "What is their intent?".

The side who can find the answers to most of these questions first controls the opening phase. But just as easy as it is taken, it can be lost. A radar can lose track, and suddenly the tables can turn. A decision you made for movement a minute before is about to have disastrous effects because you can't just right click away.

Soon enough, you're skirmishing, you're trading fire, but neither you or the enemy has decisively engaged. You're just plinking at the edge of your ranges as the battle begins to develop. Your teammates are assessing where they should make their move, and if your enemy is coordinated, they're doing the same.

Little by little, that range of engagement likely gets closer. At this point, it's likely that both fleets have committed to a fight. Whether it's an all-out-brawl, with all players just duking it out with missile spam and guns in close quarters, or a deliberate attempt to defeat the enemy team in-detail.

This is a game with decisive moments, where a single mistake from minutes ago can cascade into ultimate failure. The shifting of forces to redeploy them is something that is only in few other games. Because you can't just race to save your friends on the other side of the map, that move must've been made minutes ago. The missiles that you wasted in the opening skirmish are haunting you as the enemy Battleship only now revealed itself.

The mind games you can play with the e-war tools at your disposal would never work with AI. You can't necessarily trick an AI with a feint fleet movement and E-war, at least not in the same way.

======
Make no mistake, this is a slow game.
Matches generally take 30-60 mins, and depending on how coordinated your team is, it could be the most painful 30-60 mins you had of your day. Literally waiting 30 mins to lose because someone made a terrible mistake early on isn't fun. Other games make something like defeat a fast burn, so that you could go into the next match. But you may not know you lost until way after the blow. Comebacks are possible, they happen, but it's an uphill battle after a decisive action.

However, the reward for coordination and teamplay is something else. A stomp is infuriating, and those will happen a lot as the player base is still super fresh. But a close match (win or lose) is very rewarding. There is only one other strategy game that comes close to this: The NTW3 mod for Napoleon: Total War, another PvP focused experience.

As part of a community with very close friendships and coordination, this game is a joy to play.

The game's not gonna be for everyone. But if you have like-minded friends, or are willing to make new ones, this game fills a neat niche.

If you've got a large group of friends who are in sync, and also appreciate logistics, you'll have a ton of fun.

I have no input about what it's like to play alone, or to join a clan of strangers. But if you can gather 30+ friends, it's fun to organize and manage what you're doing. From manufacturing, to offensives.

A phenomenal game that is more than worth than its $25 price tag. Not only does it capture the gameplay that Ace Combat fans will no doubt enjoy, but it captures the feeling. The setting, the dialogue, the music, the scale, all AC players will feel right at home.

This is a masterful achievement by fans for fans.

They even included a WSO/RIO waifu for your two seater aircraft!

When it all clicks, the end result is this unique and addicting mix of the FPS and Rhythm game zen states.

You'll find yourself Internalizing the beat and music while simultaneously juggling opponents and inputs, and the game will reward you with the sounds you make with every downbeat.

This game will demand every fiber of your attention and dedication to win consistently. It also regularly demands that you have four other friends to regularly play with; ones that you can develop teamwork with.

As someone who played the X-Wing Franchise, even hosting co-op servers for squadrons of friends as of Summer 2020, I never deluded myself that this game would fill that hole. What I expected was a fast-paced test of skill and coordination. I got that. Easy to pick up, difficult to master, but when you master it, you'll feel like Wedge Antilles himself.

If you're willing to commit, you'll find a thrilling space flight game that will get your heart racing when the going gets tough.

Swing your social clout and flex your psychopathic lying skills.
Those who can't get thrown out the airlock.

10/10 would shamelessly lie to my friends again.

This game is not a ""GUN SIMULATOR""

Let me say that again so it's clear: This game is NOT a GUN ""SIMULATOR"". Do not purchase this thinking it is. It does have some detailed mechanics that go deeper into the operation of a firearm than other games do, but to call it a gun simulator would be doing a disservice to firearms, responsible firearm owners, and Wolfire Games.

Receiver 2 is an exercise in focus and zen state.

It is teaching you how to be a Receiver. I'm sure that sounds corny, but let me explain:
Among the first few tapes you could possibly come across are the basic tenets of what makes an efficient Receiver. Your ability to take in your surroundings, your quick reflexes and ability to make quick decisions; all of these are valid. But you must do all this while making sure you make the correct key combinations with little room for error when things do get serious. Run through until it becomes natural. Don't lose focus, but don't focus to the point it slows you down.

The decision paralysis that comes with these seemingly arbitrary buttons are part of the game. Again, this is not a gun simulator. Should something surprise you, and you tap your unholster button and cause an ND on yourself, you have not ingrained that lesson or you've let your mind wander too far. This mechanic would not translate to VR or the range whatsoever; you'd simply unholster your firearm without placing your index finger within the trigger guard or the trigger proper. You have the tactile feel of your entire weapon in the aforementioned examples, but it doesn't really translate well into a mechanic where the game is to keep track of your own actions. Again: This game is not a gun simulator, it's one that teaches you to become a Receiver.

The loss of level is annoying, I admit, but it falls directly in line with the design of the game and its intent. If you got through those past levels on lucky cell RNG, or cautiously going through the level, have you truly mastered that level of the game? If you're truly ready for the next rank, you should be sprinting through those levels. After all, level 1's turrets are unguarded, level 2 has a few armored, and level 3 you start to see drones and ceiling turrets. Surely if you've lost level 4 and deserve to be up there that means you've mastered the past few levels, right? Or did you just scrape on by? I'm not saying I'm up to that level yet. I can only sprint through rank 2 at best, and 3 with preferred weapon. Still, I can tell I've improved since I started. Sure I'll take out an unarmored turret from a safe position, but I'm confident enough to allow a turret to face me so that it freezes for one second so I can pop a shot without it moving - in a direction of my choice, no less.

My only real gripe is the double tap [W] forward sprint. It hasn't killed me yet, but I swear it will.

If you take it as a GAME of focus and concentration, with a sprinkling of realistic gun mechanics, then I have little doubt that you will enjoy this game.

P.S. You don't have to listen to the tapes to pick them up, you can shoot them. The information you're fed doesn't all match up. Read the floppy disks, for god's sake, read the floppy disks. You are being deceived. You are -
