Early Access Review
Hoping I can change this downvote into an upvote in the next update.

This game has always been buggy, but never as unplayable as it is right now. Me and a kidlet have enjoyed quite a few hours in the past, despite bugs causing frustration that lead us to taking a break. With Poppy Playtime Chapter 3's release we were reminded about Project Playtime, and saw it had an update! Yay!

Except... we lost all our perks that we invested in. That's annoying. Oh well, we can earn them again!

Except... we can't. Because we either:

A: Can only get into games with 1 Monster and 3 Players, the monster tends to be very experienced and the game ends quickly, minimal tickets for us

B: The game is so laggy that it makes solving puzzles an incredibly frustrating experience

Long story short, the characters are great, the ideas are fun, but rather than coming back to a game with fewer bugs we find the latest update made the experience fundamentally worse, and that's a really unfortunate trajectory.

massive props to the devs for their attention to detail, played the demo/prologue pretty... aggressively... had a lot of progress there, I had even mentally prepared myself to lose that progress

so yeah, I enjoyed the prologue enough to emotionally prepare myself for that loss

aaaaaand thus I was ecstatic when I bought the early access, loaded it up... and had all that stuff I earned :D

aside from that lovely attention to detail (which showcases itself as you choose between various power ups and modifiers that I find well explained) the game itself is really enjoyable to play moment to moment and early access have given me some long term goals to unlock and look forward to playin' with!

Enjoying this a bunch. Excited to see what comes next!

Great blend of rogue-like progression, super enjoyable and intense combat while also providing wild synergies between strategic squad setups and deck building. Also variety in those strategies! Stacking up buffs, focusing on strong single squad units, beefing up the squad numbers with summons to swarm... (there's more) even in early access the variety of *viable* strategies is a lot of fun.

Up to Corruption 4 difficulty and runs are still sparking curiosity and joy.

Feels super true to my memories of the Warcraft 3 mod from my 14.4k modem days

Hits the nostalgia feels perfectly while modernizing accessibility (automatch! stuff to collect! I'm even lookin' forward to seeing what happens w/ the campaign!)

Pro tip: Don't gaslight bug reports

Gave it some time, saw an update from July 26th, since a developer in the forum claimed to have fixed the problem I was having I was hoping the fix was in there. I still cannot play the game online.

Problems generally don't get fixed until they're acknowledged, attempting to blame my connection was a very disappointing response (and unfortunate if you took a look at the size of my library - I would be shocked if out of the many games I've played that rely on online connectivity this is the only one where I have network issues on my end)

First impressions: Scratched an itch I didn't even know I had

Loving the non-linear feel right out of the gate (okay after stepping out of the first house) - does a great job allowing space to explore and sliding in relevant things to do (for rewards!) based on where I meander (explicitly away from where I'm being directed). Weirded out that I enjoy the inventory system as a mechanic so far, I like the clever stack+slot approach, how it feels to upgrade, and how easy it is to toss it all in a magical space that I never have to worry about organizing.

It's funny, I initially found and bought this to play with my partner (suffers from pretty rough motion sickness in most first or third-person camera view games) as a nice chill survival-y type thing to do together, so after buying when we loaded it up and saw the "co-op" was... local-couch kinda stubbed-in (vs. something like Starbound where while you're visiting someone elses "universe" you are still your own entity with your own stuff, y'know?) I was initially disappointed, yet despite that it's been charming the pants off me (don't judge, BC's getting usually hot weather lately)

So we're really just playing side-by-side in our own games cause playing together's important but so is our own individuality and sense of progression. Lookin' forward to see what gets updated as the game makes it through early access!

P.S. I love when game mechanics and humor meet, lookin' at you Amber Pills, right on the edge of laughing or crying

It's so refreshing to not have to make up my own drinking game rules.

Even in early access (ver. 0. 3) it's a super fun party drinking game. Great format for it, brutal mini-games where degrees of success or failure result in a # of drinks to take after each one. LOVE. IT.

NOTE: Don't mess with the system. When it says take a drink, take *a drink*. Not a shot. We learned this the hard way when we first started playing.
