Alright, trash! It's time for a Midnight Strut Session!

WOLFSTRIDE is the underrated gem of 2021

I've been looking forward to this game since 2020's Steam NextFest where they release the demo. As a big fan of Mecha, this game was on my radar as sson as I saw the premise. The game plays like a well-written visual novel with mecha turn-based battles and minigames thrown in to help immerse you in its world. The build diversity you can have with your mech surprised me as it is so deep and varied with how much you are allowed to customize. Each of the minigames are fun in their own ways and offer rewards you can then use for your mech battles. The last bit of of interactive playing is collecting pineapples and raising your NPCs friendship. You do this by giving them said pineapples to submit them to the almighty tropical army of the pineapple god. This is one of the only downsides as the amount of pineapples needed is a bit much so farming pineapples feels tedious after a bit.

The story of this game while starting out very slow becomes this over-the-top adventure that actually made me teary eyed at the end. The moral of the story is fairly simple, but the way it is told really moved me. All the characters within the scope of this story are somehow amicable and refreshing to be around, yet they all encompass tropes we've seen time and time again. Shade is such a goof yet badass character. He really reminds me of Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes. In fact, much of the story iterates some of the themes or atmosphere of Travis Strikes Again which is a plus in my book (you should definitely give that one a try too!).

The soundtrack for this game by Isadora Penna is sooooo good. I am big on rock and dirty sounding guitar and this soundtrack is all of that and a bag of crisps. There is still tracks that sound more mellow that are very nice to listen to as well. Some of my favorites on the soundtrack are Wolfstride, Trinket & Killer, Shade, Wormageddon and See You Around, Trash. Give them a listen on whatever streaming service you use to see if you dig it.

In the end, this game was a blast that I will definitely give a replay in the future. A solid 9/10 that went under alot of people's radars. I hope more people play it.

Like you, trash!
