I've put a fair amount of time into this game, not to mention the hours on it outside of the Steam release, but with that said, I can confidently say

...that this game is very bland and has basically no story to speak of. Seriously, what they showed in the trailer for supposedly "starting" this game's plot is IT. There's no twists whatsoever (except for one, but it doesn't even matter since it's practically over as soon as it begins) and the DLCs don't add anything else to the story other than padding. To those who aren't briefed, you can get through this entire game in a single day, if not LESS. If you would still like to play a basically storyless dungeon crawler, fine, but personally I'd say you could find a much better experience- as well as one with much better gameplay elements- for a far cheaper price. Sorry, but for what this Diablo-clone-with-Minecraft-slapped-on-top-of-it offers, it's nowhere near the price it is claiming to be worth.

Just play Wynncraft it's way better

Edit: I’m a bit late to the party, but now this game is confirmed to no longer be getting any updates. Need I say more?

So I decided that after going back in to 100% this game, I had a few things on my mind about it that I needed to get out. Obviously, don’t read below unless you’ve beaten it yourself, which you should.

Most of this review will be spoiler'd as it covers the game assuming you've beaten it already. For those that haven't even started and/or are just looking to see if the game is good enough for your money, it is. It VERY much is. Just don't go in expecting it to stay like how it's marketed as on the store page, and you should have quite an enjoyable ride. The rest will be for those either not caring about spoilers or for those who have already gone through the whole thing.

I will say this: Sure, the gameplay is tight and addicting (in all 3 acts, don’t get me wrong, it’s just that some were better than others) but the story just seemed… rather forced. It didn’t draw me in all that much and I feel as if people are taking this sort of story as a more self- aware Undertale. DMG has a running theme with these sort of meta- enforcing tropes however, so it gets a slight pass. The game overall? Well, let me tell you.

Act 1 is, as many would agree, the best part of the game. And I’m no different! I went in thinking you were playing some truly ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up roguelite with some hermit who took you captive, killing you and kidnapping any other wandering “challengers” he can get his hands on. (Leshy turned out to be quite the opposite.) Of course, the story isn’t that simple, it never was. In terms of gameplay however, I cannot really get behind the whole punishment of losing being having to restart ALL over, sometimes with it being necessary if you happen to progress too far. This would upset most new players, myself included. Hell if I thought that’s all the game was, this review would’ve been a “No” from me. It’s only after you perish a few times that Leshy goes “ugh, fine” and gives you more advantages in order to best him.

Act 2 is the part of the game most hated, and to be honest, I don’t really see why. The gameplay might SEEM to be weaker in comparison to the other two acts, but hating on the retro style graphics never sat right when I perused other people’s reviews. The gameplay is the same, it’s just a different coat of paint. I get some might have felt cheated with the store page not advertising this part, but if it did, it would unveil a HUGE part of the game’s story that’s much better to discover for yourself. Gameplay wise, I’d say act 2 was also the most intricate. The way you can intertwine each different scrybe’s cards with each other, resulting in different ways to break the game and breeze through battles is what I LIVE for. (Devil’s Game was still a ♥♥♥♥♥ to get though, until I found out about mixing conduits with bones.)

Act 3 was a mixed bag, but in a good way. In act 1, you’re introduced to a warm yet ominous cabin aesthetic with a rich story with lots of flavor, and always with stuff to do, like Leshy’s character would entail. Act 3, similarly, revolves around P03. Who, like the machine he is, doesn’t give a damn about detail or story, just gameplay and balance. The factory area you get trapped in perfectly encapsulates his character being a stark contrast to Leshy as well, all blue, cold, and lifeless. Compared to act 1, it’s not as easy to break the game here (unless it comes down to a certain card, which I’ll get to soon), but it still manages to be very fun. If P03 actually did care to set up his world more, he could be at a similar level of envy ability to that of Leshy’s cabin, but he’s not, for reasons that are obvious by now, assuming you the reader are someone who did beat the game. Speaking of…

The ending… was a tearjerker for sure, but it ends up bouncing up and down between solemn acceptance and “WACKY KOOKY HEHE” that you just have trouble digesting what’s going on. The only parts I’d say were done well was Grimora and Leshy’s section. Leshy’s final lines are so utterly poetic within the community by now, I think we can all agree he was the highlight. Sorry Magnificus, I would shake your hand if you hadn’t deliberately put us on high- up pedestals… and tortured your pupils, though it’s bound to their character. As for the ending with Luke… there’s way too much for me to get into, so I’d rather let you decide how it turned out for yourself.

Oh yeah, the one thing I mentioned I'd get to when discussing act 3: the Ouroboros.
See, in act 1 it was just a meager rare card like any other Leshy would’ve given you, but with severe potential to break the game. This would’ve been cool, but only if it was unique to act 1.
In act 2, you can buy it from the trader in Leshy’s cabin for a mere 8 foil. I do think it’s sort of neat how it carries over, but by this point it’s only a bonus since act 2’s deck sizes are considerably larger compared to act 1 and 3’s, making it less likely to even draw it unless the fight draws out to begin with. Sorry for sounding like P03, but the Ouroboros kind of ruins the point of coming up with unique scrybe- crossing deck combinations to power through fights, making it less about strategy and more about “please give me Ouro, please give me Ouro”
In act 3 is when it’s the biggest problem. We’re led to believe that Leshy “gives” us the Ouroboros when his cuckoo clock glitches in, which, cool and all, but because of how P03’s act works with its focus on balance- and because deck sizes go back to “normal”- Ouroboros completely trivializes most fights, making almost the entire act REVOLVE around the card. Always take Mantis God? I wish.

All of that aside, whether you decided to read my thoughts out or not, I’d give the game a solid 8/10. Great game.

Alright, I bought this game during the early hype, and believe me it's good for what it strives to do- being to revitalize the Battle Royale genre in a way that somehow wasn't done before- but it still has A LOT of problems that its devs need to fix and hopefully will fix. Keep in mind most of these points are personal preferences, but who knows, maybe you'll relate.

- Number of different minigames to play. At first my friends told me that Fall Guys only had 25 different minigames to play, but to me at the time that seemed like a pretty hefty amount. Now though, the repetitiveness is beginning to set in.
>> Solution: Hoping the devs continue to expand on Fall Guys with not just new skins and season passes, but also new maps/games. If not, then unfortunately I don't see this game having much traction after the initial hype for it dies down. (I mean come on, there was a whole bunch of stuff you don't see ingame from the PS4 trailer!)

- No crossplay. Bit of an annoyance how they signed that contract with Sony that only allows the game to be on PC or PS, but thankfully they said they were planning on expanding it to other platforms once it expires... hopefully.

- Team games. To me, adding team games to a Battle Royale is directly like taking a ♥♥♥♥ in someone's cereal. It clearly doesn't belong, and it makes you upset, appalled, or even enraged for reasons that are out of your control. Getting eliminated in a team game never feels like your fault, but rather the teammates the game randomly decided to pick for you.
>> Solution: Either remove team games entirely or make them their own category.

- Tail games. My god, I hate these. Not only for how boring and irritating they are to even see in the game rotation, but also to merely play. As everyone knows the latency is awful, allowing opponents to grab your tail from several yards away while even if you're right against someone, your attempted grab will either fail or for whatever reason grab your target but not detach their tail.
>> Solution: Either remove tail games entirely or fix the latency issue. Personally I would prefer to see them gone, but to each their own.

- Fall Ball and Perfect Match. These two minigames I despise in particular.
- Fall Ball is always extremely irritating to see show up as it wholly relies on what teammates the game gives you. I would, however, say it IS a skill based game... if the ball physics in Fall Guys weren't so wonky and bipolar. Win or lose, I either feel bad for the enemy team or just want to move onto the next game. Not only that, but Fall Ball is a game that appears near the end of the Episode. If we have 8 people remaining, I don't want to be playing 4v4 Fall Ball!
- Perfect Match on the other hand is a game I see people complain about being too slow, and I agree. Most players don't even bother trying to memorize the fruits on the tiles and instead just prefer to follow the herds of players that actually do like sheep. This does unlock the potential for trolls to "punish" players who didn't pay attention, but I'd say it still needs reworking... somehow.
>> Solution: Either remove Fall Ball entirely or at least fix the ball physics. Absolute pain to play. Not much to say on Perfect Match, I just hope they tweak it a bit so it's more enjoyable and not as slow as it is now.

- Final games. You've got Fall Mountain, Hex-a-Gone, Jump Showdown, and Royal Fumble. I'll give my input on each.
- Fall Mountain: Bad. While people may like Fall Mountain or defend it and say "lol RNG is all a part of Fall Guys just get lucky lmao" ...that would just be bad game design. One shouldn't have to trek through all those previous minigames only to be met with Fall Mountain as the final game and have all their progress wiped not by their own slip up, but a ball hurtling at their face they couldn't see or a swinging hammer they touched at juuuuust the wrong angle or speed. The crown floating up and down is also cheap, meaning even if you get to the front, the crown could be floating upwards and you'd have to wait, allowing either the player behind you or on the other side to simply grab it. I know it's the first map the devs made, but come on. One last thing, I've seen some players suggest swapping Fall Mountain with Slime Climb... but I'm not exactly sure how that would work.
- Hex-a-Gone: Great, actually! This is a very simple game that can be mastered in numerous different ways. Cutting off a player and jumping across very wide gaps one by one to make it to a larger chunk of platform always feels amazing. Do you either decide to book it and destroy tiles as fast as possible to prevent opponents from having more space, or do you slow down and hop from tile to tile individually to conserve the space you have? The devs basically imported TNT Run into their game, and it works spectacularly.
- Jump Showdown: Also good! Though not as exhilarating as Hex-a-Gone, Jump Showdown comes pretty close. The simple spin on Jump Club of adding an extra bar while making the minimum and maximum speed of each farther apart- along with the occasionally falling platforms- makes this an intense delight to play.
- Royal Fumble: Bad. It's a tail game but as a final. It suffers the same problems as Fall Mountain, just feeling cheap to be thrown into what is essentially a roulette for a final game.
>> Solution(s): Either remove Fall Mountain or swap it with Slime Climb (another more intense version of Slime Climb would be thrilling to see as a final, at least to me) and just remove Royal Fumble. There doesn't need to be a tail game as a FINAL.

- Infallible achievement. Why does this exist. WHO DECIDED TO PUT THIS IN?! Because of this achievement's existence, being eliminated in the game feels SOUL CRUSHING rather than just a minor inconvenience for any completionists out there. Getting 5 wins in a row requires an obscene amount of skill and luck... but unfortunately the way Fall Guys is as of now... mostly luck.

Despite all of those nitpicks, the game is still fairly fun. I might recommend buying it once it goes on sale, however.

EDIT: Game's no longer worth it after they gave into Epic's scummy practices. Save your money for a much, much better game.

While the graphics are plain beautiful and the gameplay is oh, so tight, I found the story aspect of the game to be far too short, and the ending to be... disappointing. As of now this game feels like a Terraria ripoff, and not a necessarily good one, sadly. In heinsight, I do keep coming back to replay this game, even though I don't feel the "sandbox" aspect of it, as it was attempting to be. Increase the depth and length in the story, and my review would change to a more positive note.
