A true hidden gem, if you're into 2D action rpg's you wont regret getting this.

Such a joy to play very addicting combat and a creative powerup system, where you have to equip different weapons and armor to learn new skills.

The game even supports wasapi audio api, and has a very good soundtrack.

The story is also quite good.

only thing i disliked the later chapters (chapter 8 and onwards) got a huge difficulty spike at least on hard which required more grinding then i personally like.

Some advice: Try doing the arena challenges every chapter before moving to the next one. Because there are very useful unlocks to earn in it, like for example a crossbow and recipe books which help a lot in later chapters. Also for the achievement hunters only missable achievement = play the game on hard.

If you enjoy RPG's from the 90's, such as Chrono Trigger, Suikoden, Xenogears etc. Then I can highly recommend this game.
It features fantastic pixel art, a fantastic soundtrack, and excellent combat mechanics. the story and characters were interesting. I also Loved the references and humor.

One of the best stories Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio did, absolutely loved it.

It's really good for a spin off game.
You can't go wrong with it, if you want more Steins;Gate
