I got this for $5 and I still feel like I was robbed. I'm surprised this slop has mostly positive reviews.

-Terrible story and all character interaction is full of filler and mundane dialogue.
-Terrible gameplay, only fun I had was a hard mode pacifist(handicapped) mechanically unfair boss fight.
-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, which when combined with the game's lack of substance made it's insertion truly soulless & detracting.
-Miraculously, not a single compelling character.

Was fun for it's time but the game aged incredibly poorly. The 2nd modern release(Rise of the Tomb Raider 2016) aged very well and you don't need to play the prequel.

7/10
A better GTA. If you're looking for a RPG with roleplay, simulated environments, & immersive story elements then Cyberpunk isn't that game. It's if you gave the PC branching story paths & added depth to the game mechanics of GTA-esque titles. The DLC content is a few hours of improvement but no must-buy.

No reason to buy even if on sale over other arena/looter shooters
Got this for 70% off and it's still hard to justify buying this game. It is the jankiest, buggiest, and most archaic(not in a good way) shooter I've ever played.

Everything is quite franky subpar but two things:
1. The gameplay ONLY when your arsenal is assembled far enough for you to overcome the artificial difficulty, which it then becomes a pretty fun n good bolter simulator. Play on second-hardest difficulty not hardest like I did for fun!

2. The hive city industrial environments are done very well, unless you're coming straight from hive city excerpts and don't want to play darktide let alone any of the superior arena shooters, you may enjoy it as a 40k nerd.

One time fun time.
7/10 ~ More gamer nerd than 40k nerd, beaten on hardest difficulty.

If you're living check by check and 20 bucks is a lot for you to spend on a game, I would say look elsewhere.

If you have a few bucks to spare and just want a few hours of fun, I think this game is fairly priced and and I recommend buying it. The game also seems pretty lore friendly when it comes to the lethality of enemies as well as the space marine you play as vs certain higher tech weapons. I think 40k nerds will also enjoy it as an intermediate experience.

This game is effectively a retro Doom 2016 but worse, unless you're a Warhammer fan or a fan of the retro shooter aesthetics I'd just buy Doom 2016 which is also priced at $20. Make no mistake though for an indie this game is great. I'm looking forward to see what the devs will cook up next and I think it's valuable to give indies some love.

Pros:
- If you're a warhammer 40k nerd your panties will be soaked.

-Chapter 1 & 2(Early game and Mid game) is very strong and enjoyable. Game is balanced well and smart gameplay is rewarded, using the appropriate amount of power against x target(s) feels intuitive.

-Most of the maps are visually/aesthetically appeasing and fun to navigate.

-Diverse enemy types which work very well off each other, creating more pressure for the player and forcing them to adapt to each combination of enemies + room.(Good mix of melee vs ranged threats)

Cons:
-Enemy AI breaks often and can be easily exploited, at times it just kills the immersion.

-It is so incredibly hard to see both enemies and when it comes to navigating the environment in this game. Often times you need to be straining your eyes past all the bright visual affects contrasted with the dark environments just to hit peanut sized human enemies. The contrast is simply ass.

-The game becomes pretty repetitive and I don't think it has fun replay-ability. This is a one time fun time.

-D1-Even on the hardest difficulty I felt that the game was giving me too many resources.

-D2-Later game rooms become more about nuking them with the expectation of having an op weapon loaded than actually navigating them well, too many rooms where it's physically impossible to avoid damage

-D3-Weapons were fun but underpowered weapons were immediately noticeable and given C1, you'll naturally neglect a good portion of your arsenal,(Shotgun/Volkite Caliver/Plasma Gun) 40% of your arsenal.

Get it on sale or not at all.
Vermintide 2 is a better game. What Darktide offers is a different game.
Game is still in early access, a work in progress, and requires 10 mods minimum to make it playable. Everything outside of the gameplay is ♥♥♥♥, however the gameplay is best in class as far as modern PVE shooter releases go.

1. Character aesthetic, appearances, and customization is grossly lacking in content and quality. Quality does not increase by buying into their overpriced paid cosmetics.

2. Can't select missions of your choice, can't play solo, can't play weapons you want when you want unless you get good rolls. Before you get into game all of your choices are limited.

3. Lack of quality of life, no hotkeys for menus, no way to identify other players alias, and various changes like FOV swaps and turning effects off all require mods. You will mod or you won't play.

Watch a stream, see if you like the gameplay enough to suffer all it's hindrances. There are many hindrances and I say let it cook for a while longer.

November 2023 beta review:
Unfortunately I cannot recommend this game in good faith to anyone let alone those who played Fatshark's previous tide games. Lets keep it short and sweet. TLDR: Worse gameplay than Vermintide 2, complete lack of player accessibility and control over the product, lack of content + microtransactions, not respectful of a buyer's time, Certainly not worth 40 dollars.

Gameplay compared to Vermintide 2:
1. Vermintide 2's smooth movement and melee design has been trampled upon in an effort to nerf players and lower individual agency. Skill ceiling is overall lower

2. Lack of class diversity and content on release. Darktide has 4, Vermintide had 15.

2. Lack of adaptability of gameplay, you are completely bound to a specific role with severe power constraints.

3. Too many artificial systems in place affecting gameplay. Vermintide 2 with it's invisible walls had more player freedoms and agency when it came to gameplay.

4. The gameplay ultimately isn't coming together well, and there's so much wrong with the design itself. Even when disregarding bugs and poor balance I ultimately think Fatshark dropped the ball with it's core design.

The development of this game is covered in red flags and is nowhere near suitable for a November 30th release.
Red Flags:

- Jarring lack of base content for a $40 game with plans to put in microtransactions(few cosmetics thus far are just lazy reskins)

- Completely unstable performance for pre-release beta, frequent crashing, poorly optimized, buggy as ♥♥♥♥(As of 2 days before release)

- Removing prerequisite features like functioning scoreboards because "muh toxicity", lack of absolute focus on game development and gameplay.

- Removed mod support, private lobbies, and private server hosting(was peer to peer)despite previous titles having it. Less consumer friendly/less accessible across the board.

- Game can only be accessed online connected to wifi, no offline accessibility.

- Game is made to be artificially grindy with alternating rng loot pool elements and randomized alternating mission selection. Akin to a gacha or mmo.

It would not be a complete overstatement to call this game a lazy attempt at a cash grab. There's effort put into the aesthetics, art, and media most certainly. That being said the development has been rushed and sprinkled with false promises. It is an appalling release. May be updated if delayed(hopefully) or in the future given changes in development. For now save your money.
