To start off, GTA V is a good game. It might not have the best storyline we’ve seen from the series, but it is a very well-crafted and enjoyable experience. The map and atmosphere of Los Santos are unmatched by anything on the market, there is truly no competition. However, the singleplayer part of the game has not been updated since 2015, with all of the content being added to online instead. And Online is very different to GTA V, and the reason for why this review is a negative one. To start off; it’s simply silly. In a game about street crime and taking scores R* has decided adding content such as flying jet powered bikes w/heat-seeking missiles is appropriate. The reason for such additions and departure from an experience that remains a little more grounded is simple, it’s money. At this point GTA Online only exists for the purpose of extracting as much monetary value from children (or rather, their parents) as possible. Putting aside how unethical this is, it makes for a much worse end product. That being said, it can still be enjoyable at times, simply because it is built upon the foundations of GTA V, the map and atmosphere is still there, and on PC where players tend to be a little more mature than on console you can usually end up in peaceful sessions away from R*’s ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ additions. However, even if you do enjoy online, the downright non-existent security opens up more problems. This is because R* has made no attempt at making their software safe to use. First of all, flaws within the Social Club application make it so that you can be tracked across the game by people who exploit them, and since servers are peer-to-peer this means an external party can have complete control over your experience; they can straight up make it impossible for you to join online, effectively banning you, and there’s nothing R* can do about it. And this is the least of the problems associated with R*’s peer-to-peer system, since not only does it make hacking in the game incredibly easy and pretty much impossible to prevent (not like R* has made any attempts at stopping hackers mind you), it also means that anybody can see your IP address, giving this software the potential to doxx your rough location. Long story short; Grand Theft Auto Online is an exploitative mess that R* has not even attempted to make safe for us to use.

29/01/23 Update: Since January the 20th 2023 a new exploit that allows script kiddies to completely change your gtao character data & ban you from the game has surfaced, with possible RCE elements that make this game a security risk..
