Welcome to Summit Reviews!

An independent, international group of passionate writers and veteran reviewers, Summit Reviews punches above your average Curator by delivering professional, in-depth reviews for any game on Steam that manages to catch our eye, and offering a community to those who wish to improve their writing and reviewing skills. Through our gates, the best Reviewers of Steam are forged!

Our group was formed on a standard. We don't pretend to be the "be-all and end-all of the written word", but we do like it, and will proudly say we know it. Writing for us requires a certain level of quality, commitment, a bit of enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn further, with some integrity thrown in.

Revising the Steam Group

Greetings everyone!

Over the past couple of months, we've been hard at work behind the scenes, revising numerous aspects of Summit Reviews and how we handle things as a group, as well as re-evaluating our place as not only a Steam Curator, but an independent review outlet as well.

As part of those changes which, among other things, included revisions to our recruitment process, policy towards publishers, as well as the day-to-day functioning of our Discord server,[discord.com] we (the Administration team) have come to an agreement to close off the Steam group to the public and make it staff-only.

In the next couple of days, anyone in the group who is not currently a Trainee Reviewer or Reviewer in our staff will be kicked out. You will still, of course, be able to follow our Curator to have all of our reviews appear in your Activity Feed and on the store pages of the games you're looking up, as well as have access to the Application Thread and its comment section, should you wish to join.

The only thing that will change in terms of the Steam Group's functionality is that it will no longer be used for posting announcements. As we've barely been using it in that capacity to begin with, we assume that most of you will not feel the change once it happens. Regardless, we wanted to give you a heads up, as full transparency is one of the things we're striving towards, now more than ever.

As part of that lunge towards transparency, we'd like to invite you, once again, to join our Discord server[discord.com], which has been open to everyone for a little shy of a year now. We're a lot more active on there and keep its members posted on even the tiniest of changes we make!

We're also excited to announce that, as we finalise the changes of these past few months, we'll be kicking off work on our own website, with the goal of diversifying our work, allowing our writers more freedom when it comes to what they write and how they write it, building further trust with publishers and developers, as well as bringing our brand of game criticism to audiences outside of Steam. If all goes well, we should have it done sometime before the end of the year. No hard dates yet, though!

After one month of discussion between the higher staff ranks, an agreement was reached to transfer the ownership and consequently leadership of Summit Reviews to someone other than myself. This decision was taken of common accord after lengthy debates, without any ill-sentiment between any one involved.

The reason is very simple: over the course of our time here, it was proven time and again that, as experienced and competent as I might be in all matters concerning reviewing and management, I'm completely inadequate on a humane level, when it comes down to dealing with internal issues that require empathy, understanding of the human heart and so forth. This was proven by facts, especially in the more recent times where an increasing number of people quit or manifested their disapproval with the way I dealt with such situations. The way such problems was dealt with was often less than ideal, and this has damaged Summit in the long run.

Being the Director of Summit inevitably becomes a de-facto symbol of the mood and 'spirit' the group as a whole has and will have, so it was agreed that a person with my difficulties in the social and emotional spheres is simply not fit to be the 'all around' type of character a leader needs to be. I agree with this fact in full, admit my limits, and resign to the fact one can never fight its own nature.

Therefore, I resign my commission as Director and appoint Quirky Custodian as the new owner and leader of Summit Reviews. The transference of ownership of all groups and facilities was already completed beforehand.

I'm not quitting the group. I'll stay as a Mentor, Admin, Manager, Reviewer and general technical grease-monkey. But I won't participate in anything involving 'human nature' and all such things I am unable to properly understand.
