He Watches Us

May He watch over us as we exit this holiday period and enter a time of darkness and fear. May He guide us through Yearly Exams and School as if He were Prime Possum or Big Dog guiding us to bed. Freeman Forbid He guide us as if He were The Workers, and let us shed a tear for those Workers who made us cry many a time before Now.

A Plague of Warm Bread

By morning the Oven had brought the Warm Bread; it invaded all Canteen and settled down in every area of the bench in great lots of three. Never before had there been such a plague of Warm Bread, nor will there ever be again. It covered all the benchtop until it was silver with aluminium foil. It warmed all that was left after Recess—everything cooking in the Ovens and the food on the bench. No Garlic Bread remained on bench or Oven in all the land of Canteen.
