Realize
(Industrial Metal)

Country: US

Albums:
  • Demolition (2018)
  • Machine Violence (2020)
  • Two Human Minutes (2023)
US based industrial metal band that is influenced by the likes of Godflesh, Nailbomb and Meathook Seed to name a few. The band is mainly composed of members from blackened death metal group Languish and hardcore/power violence band Sex Prisoner. Which explains their sort of almost hardcore-esque underlying sound.

Mord'A'Stigmata

(Experimental Black Metal)

Poland

Albums:
  • Überrealistic (2008)
  • Antimatter (2011)
  • Ansia (2013)
  • Hope (2017)
  • Dreams of Quiet Places (2019)
  • Like Ants and Snakes (2022)

Mord'A'Stigmata is a band from Poland, playing Black Metal.

This band plays a really interesting style of Black Metal that focuses a lot on carrying atmosphere through repetitive riffing and monotone song passages paired with harsh vocals, interrupted by slow-paced eerie passages.
"Hope" was the first release I've heard of them and the title song is a really good showcase of exactly that. To this date, I believe that "Hope" is a great example of how Black Metal evolved beyond the tight boundaries of the first and second wave styles.

As time progressed, Mord'A'Stigmata got more and more experimental, and added and removed their Black Metal influences as they pleased.
"Like Ants and Snakes" is a stark contrast to their previous work, the album barely sounds like a Metal album and takes a lot of inspiration from progressive rock sounds.
It is one of the more interesting releases from Poland I've heard in recent years and I highly recommend it if you want a bit more laid-back music.

As a sidenote, if any of you have played Cyberpunk 2077, this band has one of their songs in a radiostation there as well.
They released it under the pseudonym "Hexxxer" and the song is called "Future Drugs".

Esoteric

(Funeral Doom/Death Metal)

United Kingdom, Birmingham

Albums:
  • Epistemological Despondency (1994)
  • The Pernicious Enigma (1997)
  • Metamorphogenesis (1999)
  • Subconscious Dissolution into the Continuum (2004)
  • The Maniacal Vale (2008)
  • Paragon of Dissonance (2011)
  • A Pyrrhic Existence (2019)

Following the footsteps of Thergothon and Disembowelment, Esoteric were one of the earliest bands honing the style of Funeral Doom.
What makes Esoteric outstanding is that unlike the previously mentioned bands, Esoteric are incorporating a lot of psychedelic elements into the sound while still meddling with Death Metal.

Most of their songs push far beyond the 10 minutes-mark. An attempted comparison of their style would be Funeral Doom the way Evoken writes it, except that Esoteric uses a lot more time for the build up, which is usually realized through the extensive use of repetition and rather simple riffs.
Despite the length of their songs they manage to write very concise albums that are quite homogenic, every album feels like something whole that belongs together. With that being said, their albums are probably working the best way if you listen to them in one sitting.

While Esoteric's music isn't something I'd consider approachable, its some of the best Funeral I had the pleasure to listen to.

With that being said, have a nice day.
