This small pocket of players (who I hope to see grow into
something much greater than themselves) will be solely dedicated
to the frequency of Tournaments in an online setting.

The dates and times for Tournaments and their criteria
will be posted on our Event page whenever they're constructed.

THE FOLLOWING THINGS WILL INFLUENCE PLAY WHEREVER
YOU ARE.

1) The Mic: Oh, that instrument of communication. As much as I'd love
for it to be used solely for the powers of good, unfortunately there are
just people out there who love to call small children F@!#sticks whenever
they're beaten in a video game. Know that there is profanity and such
online. Deal with it appropriately, don't bend over to bullies, and it won't
be a problem for you too long. And of course, those who blatantly seek to
troll will get muted. Or thrown into Oblivion. Whichever hurts more.

2) The Lag: The eternal struggle of every Fighting Game player. It ruins
your timing, ruins your character, ruins your mood, ruins your dinner...
it even ruins deep rooted relationships. Unfortunately, it's not something
we can directly control, otherwise we would. So please, just make
sure your connection is at least adequate. If not, everyone else deal
with it like civilized, mature gentleman and ladies. Or just foam at the
mouth and let it dribble onto your controller of choice. That solves
EVERYTHING.

3) Player Error/Good Competition: If you make an input error, or end
up losing to someone who might be throwing or DP'ing just a BIT too
much...accept it. Everyone plays Fighters for the fun, for the challenge,
for the skill, and to get better. There is no exception. We take it upon
ourselves to make our communities rotten or prosperous. Make your
choice.

As Time Goes By...

So...first of all, I hope all of you here are doing spectacular.

It's been a hot minute. This weekend has been the first time I've logged into Steam consistently in a while, but it was worth it to talk to some friends and meet some new people.

But I just played a couple of Ranked matches (mainly for small bits of s$#ts and giggles) some minutes ago, and had my booty spanked so bad that it's most likely hypothetically raw and bleeding.

But that's not to say I didn't have fun.

It's so rare to feel the way that I did with those matches that often, because honestly, I don't play Street Fighter anymore.

Or rather (I gotta bring that one back), I don't play often anymore. And that's because of a plethora of things, but for right now I wanna take a moment and speak to those who still play considerably.

I not-so-recently got a job as a Dance Instructor at a Fred Astaire Dance Studio here on the East Coast.

And although that's not really big news, it's opened up my eyes to a lot of new things, and reinforced what I already stuck to in the past.

To get better at anything, there must be commitment of some kind.

It's rare for anyone to pick something up, dabble with it for a few minutes or a few days or a few weeks or even a few months, and come out a Jedi Master on the Council.

That shi$ just doesn't happen.

And seeing others dance who have aspirations to be competitive in that community, and seeing others play Fighting Games with the desire to be better, and having my a$$ handed to me on a silver platter with some perfume and roses and a small note that read, "It tasted so nice, thank you very much," has heightened my awareness to that simple fact.

PERFECTION COMES FROM PROGRESS, AND PROGRESS IS REPETITION.

There's no other way around it.

And I know that I don't play Street Fighter that much anymore, but for those of you that do, and especially for those of you who want to get better, and who grind and grind, and for those of you who seek those who can teach you and for those of you who teach those that want to learn from you...never forget those words.

There is no better way to get good at anything than by doing it.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY

I'm trying to usher in more time for all of you willing to participate here on FSUF a little bit at a time...so I organized an upcoming Event for the Group next Saturday at 8.

In my spare time however, I've started tinkering with another game that has intrigued me more and more as time has gone on...and that, my good friends, is Tekken.

I've been taking a break from Street Fighter for a bit and have begun to explore other paths on this long road called Fighting Game Lane...this has had me visit places like Persona 4 Ultimax, Dead or Alive, and even Soul Calibur.

And although I'd came across those smaller towns when I was kid, it never occured to me to try and fully explore any other fighting game besides Street Fighter.

Why?

Well, it wasn't because I didn't like them, I obviously played them.

And it wasn't because I thought I couldn't get any good at them, if I put the time into each title as I did Street Fighter I most likely would've gotten the same amount of skill as I did with that title.

I think that the only reason I didn't do so was because of a word that has us all stick to one thing and never truly branching out.

FAMILIARITY.

Street Fighter isn't (and was never) foreign to me, and as a result I always loved to play it. Even when I got bodied, lol.

All of the others seemed a bit more complex in a way, and so I never really had a desire to touch them.

Not to mention that I always thought that SF was the coolest of the litter. It's characters and music just trumped everything else to me, and it still does to a degree.

But as I've grown older, it's gotten more and more important to me to branch out when I can and try new things.

Not only in video-games mind you, but in reality as well.

Sometimes it can make us smarter, more interesting people.

...sometimes, lol.
