I did not want to believe the reviews and I bought The Sims 3 anyways. This game crashes constantly on modern hardware. The base game runs okay but once you purchase a DLC and add it to your game, the crashes become far more frequent. If you are playing on modern hardware your best option is to purchase this game on sale, and zero extra content. That really sucks, if you are playing on older hardware closer to the era of The Sims 3's prime this game will run much better.

Bought all the DLCs and game won't even start. Tried just about everything then finally gave up

Made a sim have pretty much my exact personality. She lives alone, avoids social interactions, knows several skills but seldomly improves at them, rarely advances in her career, and eats mac and cheese for dinner almost every night. At this point I can only assume she and I are in a race to see who will be the first to die alone and without fulfilling our lifetime wish of becoming a famous author. And honestly, that’s one race I fear I may win.
10/10 insultingly realistic, would definitely recommend
