I loved this game. I played the original in the 90's on my voodoo gpu.
But nostalgia couldn't even help this gem get a good review.
tl/dr: Get the remaster of Battlezone II. Don't buy this unless you love frustration.

I don't really know what the developers had in mind when they rereleased it.
But they sure didn't have the goal to make this a fun experience in todays time. And I am also sure they didn't playtest this.

Most Missions have some sort of countdown sooner or later.
At the same time you're always struggling with micromanaging your troops.

Your own weapons are empty after 2 to 3 enemies.
Even the weapons of every single of your troops have to be filled up after a while.
If you are lucky and you have a building for that. But the loading is slow af. Same for regenerating health.
If you're not lucky you have to go back to your base and use the recycler which always shoots the ammo / health in different directions.
If you use the building that shoots the ammo and health onto the map you're sitting around for a atlest 5 minutes until it arrives.
At the same time you're stuggling with Scavengers getting destroyed or being stuck in base because of the poor path finding. Same with pilots being stuck forever between building.

There is no grouping.
Controls are icky.
The menu is incomplete.
You can't access the mission goals.
The handling in the RTS Overview mode is extremely useless.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Good luck with the time limits under these circumstances!

All of this could have been optimized.

More ammo on board. And a certain amount of regeneration.
Instant / faster arrival of ammo / health on the battlefield.
Faster regeneration with the buildings.
Scavengers should regenerate or flee when they are attacked.

Just the basic stuff that would make this enjoyable which would surface if you let 3 people playtest this.

I played battlezone 2 a couple of months ago. And I remember it also had it's flaws, but it was much much more enjoyable.
