Had a great attempt to solidify a strong, WW1 strategy game, and fumbled it.
The game is abandoned, with no major updates for over 8 months now. The game is still rife with bugs, the AI blatantly cheats and the gameplay loop is less than ideal. When the AI can field more troops and can replace them/generate more substantially quicker than the player, it gets grindingly repetitive, and not in the way that I wanted a WW1 game to be. The persistent battle feature, meant to showcase how the fields of war developed from 1915 onwards (the game starts after the Christmas truce, losing what could've been a really interesting set, in the lead up to the Marne.) doesn't exist. Trenches remain, sure, but units, bodies, wrecks and shell craters do not.
The lack of a CO-OP campaign, combined with multiplayer simply being skirmishes with little in the way of entertainment is just downright disappointing.
Save yourself the cash, and don't buy this game. There'll be another time for a decent WW1 strategy game.

What a damned shame.

I had hopes for this game. Unfortunately it's just frustrating and disappointing. I understand what they tried to do in making the combat tedious. That is what WWI was. I also get that it wasn't easy to overtake a position in WWI due to the trench system without massive losses. They did a good job recreating that. However... If you do manage to completely capture all of the enemy positions on a map in this game, the enemy still owns it after the battle. You need to win multiple times round after round (the amount depends on the territory) in order to actually take that spot.

It feels like this - You kill all of the enemy troops, take their positions, win a major victory, and then you radio the enemy to say "hey, that was fun - we took your positions. We are going to retreat back to our trenches now and you can have these positions back. Please completely refill your numbers with reinforcements and we'll do it all again tomorrow until we beat you 2 or 3 more times." Seriously? That did not happen, even in WWI. If you managed to take the enemy positions, you didn't just give it back. This makes the game ridiculously repetitive. You do all the work to win a battle, but you didn't actually win. You don't want to bother taking control of the battle again because you already did, so you just use the auto resolve which is not fun.

And don't get me started on the bugs... It's just a shame.

It could have been a great game. The devs though havent been active and have let the game languish. I would not recommend buying as there are clear issues and it gets very repetitive.

Really fun and faithful to history.

This is probably the only WW1 game besides war hospital I'd ever recommend to a friend.
