Hey friends, sorry for being a day late! Visited my hometown and didn't take my PC with me and also forgot to pre-write the update🤦 But here I am now, so let's jump into the new content!!




As you progress through Paper Animal Adventure you'll get to unlock more and more characters to play - currently a total of 14 to be exact, and even more if you count temporary characters!

When you unlocked all permanent characters, you'll get this little achievement here:

And as soon as you'll go back to the title screen, you'll be greeted with this:

A new art piece, where all 14 of the permantly unlockable characters are sitting together at a campfire! I think it's super cute and I always liked when games have a "secret" second title screen (like in Mario Kart Double Dash for example haha)

The art was done by the amazing Kiana Mosser[x.com]! She also made the normal title screen and I think both of them are super fitting for the game💪




Each of the eight worlds offers two music pieces, one track for exploring and the Free Roam mode and one for Battle.

The floor intro already kinda foreshadowed the B-Sides, since it always shows on the bottom which tracks are gonna be played and by which composer.

During normal runs everything will stay the same as before, but as soon as you start a Rewind Run now, each area will have new music too!

I can't really show them here, but trust me, they are super cool and the composers did an amazing job! There are a total of 8 new tracks now, made by 5 additional composers:)




The Gear Shrine Depths area finally got its Rewind Run version: The Bramble Abyss!

Everything looks a bit corrupted by some eerie presence, as well as overgrown with vines and ranks.

I wanted to go for a "Castle Bleck"-vibe from Super Paper Mario:)


Each character had two skins to chose from: Their default A-Skin and a second, unlockable B-Skin.

With the addition of character levels I also wanted to give the player something cool as soon as they max out a character to level 10. So I added Chroma skins!

Chroma skins have shifting colors! Not all details will be affected though, since it doesn't look as nice when everything shifts colors in my opinion. In Peep's case, his hat, beak and shoes stay the same color as normally, but his body does change colors. It's a very similar effect to the ones that Rewind Bosses have!

Speaking of additional skins, I added another skin slot for C-Skins! The system is already working, but the C-Skins itself are still being made. Here's two examples!

Rebel has a very similar appearance to the Mechaling enemies from the Toy Box Tangle:)

I finally managed to add all challenges to the game!:)

There will be a total of 52 Challenges! At first you have only the first ten available, but the more challenges you complete, the more challenges you will unlock!

There are quite some cool ones (in my opinion at least lol), so I wanted to highlight a few:

In Challenge #26 - "Stay at home" - you have to complete the Dungeon floor without your domain running out! This means you constantly have to expand it to keep the timer up, because when it runs out, you lose!

It's quite hard, but a fresh concept I think:D

Also I have been playing a certain other game a lot, you might be able to tell by the name and description of Challenge #27 haha

Challenge #32 has you enpoisoned! This means you will have the Enpoison Status Effect permanently, and this time poison can defeat you! Attack enemies as quick as possible to trigger Griswold's passive to keep your Health Points up!⏰

Sparkles and sunglasses - Challenge #37 lets you play as the Golden Pig! Its passive gives you Buttons as soon as you beat a Dungeon floor, perfect for buying stuff from traders🐷

The Super Paper Racing Challenges increase the speed of the game by a certain amount. In this case it's increased by 50%! This may not sound like a lot, but believe me, it is😂

Challenge #50 is a boss rush Challenge! Defeat all default bosses without being defeated yourself:D

Oh also a thing I wanted to mention is that the Challenges won't feature any content from the last area, the Gear Shrine Depths. I wanted to keep it "Adventure-Mode"-exclusive and make it feel special when you reach it:)

What Challenge #51 and #52 are you ask? Well, you have to find that out yourself one day! >:D




Paper Animal Adventure used to have 102 achievements, and while I already feel like this is quite a bunch, I also felt like I wouldn't be able to have achievements for all the new stuff😅

This is how the old achievements screen looked:

And here comes the new one:

Like before, the green tiles don't unlock anything, while the red tiles unlock new game content! With the reworked achievements, we increased the total achievements count from 102 to 220!

Ah you're only counting 160? As soon as you move the cursor enough to the bottom the description will shift to the top and you'll be able to see the other 60 achievements:)

So lots of stuff to do, see and unlock!:D




Sadly you also have to take care of some more boring stuff when making games, for example providing the players with the ability to adapt the game to their likings and add a settings menu haha

You can now remap your inputs while being in-game!:)

I also added some more miscal-, uh, miscellena-, uh, mis-, ... some other settings!!

You can now for example change the sprite of the character and danger tiles.

This is the default, with the character tiles being transparent and the danger tiles looking this way. But you can make them look like this for example:

Also some people said that the message boxes look cute, but are kinda hard to read. This is the standard look of them:

But by changing the Message Box Style to Simple, the message boxes will look like this:

You will also be able to change the Screenshake Intensity, Freeze Frame duration, if the camera should zoom in on Critical Hits and some other stuff. This should make the game even more accessible:)




This was kinda unplanned, but I decided to add another playable character to the list! I won't show him here yet, but you can unlock him by completing every challenge💪

Maybe you can tell from the silhouette🤔

At the end of the trailer it was announced that Paper Animal Adventure will come to Steam Early Access Early/Mid 2025! I hope you're all as excited as I am, super much looking forward to include you all a bit more in the development process!!🚀
