This is such a hard no but just enough about this game made me annoyed to recommend against it, but it's a tentative enough no that it's worth considering if you're a die hard fan of cute, casual games.

Note: my playtime is artificially bloated because I forgot to close the game before I did a bunch of errands. Twice. Oops. Knock maybe eight hours off the time to platinum.

Pros:
- Beautiful to look at. Some sick boss battles.
- Some really interesting mechanics (having all the villages level up separately was a great choice, and having levelling up tied to how well supported your villages are has some fun themes tied to it.)
- Some really good music. Like, I went out of my way to look for the Summer Bar themes on Spotify because I enjoyed them that much.
- Concord is cute. I like that guy.

Cons:
- The combat system is slow, unwieldy, and annoying. It's not difficult, but it's never satisfying. Every battle feels like a chore and most of the damage I took was stray globs smacking Concord around unfairly. The way it's connected to stamina was unbearable.
- Material collecting was only marginally better in this regard. Also you have to pick up every single item manually one by one. This was such a bad choice.
- The amount of back and forth was unbearable. One really brutal example is that the shops in the first area initially have no nearby resource box, so if you wish to purchase something with a resource in storage you need to walk a whole loading zone away to the nearest box. Later the library opens with a box, but that too is a separate loading zone. <i>later</i> later you can build your own resource box, but you can only place it on the other side of the map from the shops. Huh??? Why was this a choice made. There's rarely loading boxes beside the merchants you can sell to as well, and you can only sell to some merchants. It's just so unnecessarily tedious, especially considering the next issue.
- For like 90% of my time with the game my backpack was just so tiny!!! It was awful!!!
- This is very YMMV but the dialogue annoyed me. It's clearly trying to go for a cute and cozy vibe, but everyone talks the same way--even old and weathered town leaders talk like sassy twenty year olds. Every time a character would accent their texts with something *sooooo* emphasised I felt my bones wrinkle in distaste.
- The story also did nothing for me. Very tell don't show and very toothless. The themes are half baked, and whatever story it wants to tell about loss and preservation is muddled by it's clear ethos of Good Vibes Only. A cozy game can still have something to say, and Garden Story clearly <i>thinks</i> it does, but god does it let down.

You know actually looking at this now it isn't actually that hard of a no. This game is a beautiful piece of hot air, and I think you could play something better.

I want to be short and to the point for those who are interested in buying or playing this game.
Pros:
-Very cute and relaxing to play
-Good Soundtrack
-Very similar to turnip boy
-Good Story and Characters (Rana is my favourite)
-The bosses are well made, not very difficult to beat them
-The graphics are very good and run perfectly if you have a potato PC

Cons:
-Too few bosses and content in the balance with too many weapon upgrades. This is the worst thing in the game, to do all the weapon upgrades and complete the remaining things in the game after finishing the story takes about another 10 hours. But in those 10 hours you won't do anything new, you'll just collect resources to max all your weapons and unlock special abilities on them which are useless because there are no other bosses to beat. Of course, you can beat the same bosses again (which are only 4 anyway) but it wouldn't make any sense because with the upgraded weapons it will only be much easier to beat them and you will get bored faster.
-I would have liked the game to have more different difficulties or more content after finishing it, with new missions and more dialogues

In conclusion Garden Story is a very nice game that is worth playing if you liked Turnip Boy, a game that needs more content like a dlc and updates to be balanced in terms of difficulty, upgrades and quantity of content offered together with missions and story.One or 2 dlcs would complete this game properly. For example, a new story to play with Rana or young Plum or why not a prequel with one of the guardians and their adventures. Something to add content with new areas, bosses, enemies and new characters for more story where you can use your upgraded weapons and plus one or 2 new ones. This is of course just an opinion because the game seems to need a continuation in the form of an update or dlc, or both from my point of view. It gets an 8/10 from me because I liked it and it still has potential
