"Slaughter. That's the word used by most people to describe the battlefield in which my feet rest. I never had any pity for my opponents. Death is not something that scares me. Not a single bit. It hasn't always been easy being a Pumpkin, though. Back in the day, I was not even able to hold a gun. Everyone can learn. It's an important lesson. Of course, it took me practice. Until today, I have become what people fear.
'Mr Pumpkle!' they scream, 'please have pity, I don't want to lose my rank again.' But I did not listen to them. Slaughter. Again. Slaughter. What a sweet word.

But then came the inconceivable. One day, I had a challenge. One soul seemed more trained than me. I was outmatched. Every move I made, it predicted. I thought I was the best. I thought... I could... do something. But I could not. I was too weak in comparison.


I remember the last words I've heard before turning to dust. The enemy looked at me right into the eyes, aiming at me with his shotgun. He then whispered with a bliss the last thing I heard before dying:

'Rekt.' "
