sometimes there's a beauty in such dumb short lived bugs cause it creates beauties like this.
FungalFish 10 Jul, 2022 @ 12:23pm
I love the description.

Pft! Oh wow, that's an unfortunate colonist.
ZorbaTHut  [author] 10 Feb, 2020 @ 12:56am
@Naughty, based on a true story, actually! She joined the colony out of nowhere, totally naked, walked towards the colony, and got murdered by a hungry panther seconds later.
"The" SeanMacLeod 9 Feb, 2020 @ 10:29pm
Only what's listed in the "Formatting help" window will work.

I lost it. These mods have the very best descriptions.

Yeah I get that, I have plenty of creativity for fleshing out a framework and basic structure but then it all falls apart in the details, well usually.

The other day I managed to write a pretty detailed backstory and character motivation by using someone's scenario, randomizing for a character that made sense for that and then questioning the in world reason behind every single detail from his backstory and passions to his traits, skills and even using his age to rationalize why some of his skills were so low for a 60 year old.

It's probably the most detailed thing I've ever written about just one person, it was great. This so called game does say right on the tin that it's a story generator and that is what you did with it here so...Hopefully you'll have time while on holiday or snow day coming up here?

If you want to see what I wrote that can be arranged, it will come with full scenario and character stat details.

I loved this story!
ZorbaTHut  [author] 19 Oct, 2018 @ 4:57pm
@Entil'Zha, I'm not, I'm afraid, I'm more of a game developer. Right now, not even that, just a programmer.

I've wanted to do more writing but it requires an amount of free time and extra brainspace that I just don't have at the moment :/ Maybe someday.
Derp & Junk 18 Oct, 2018 @ 12:34am
Dude please PLEASE tell me that you are an actual writer, your mod descriptions are good enough to be published as an anthology! Also great job using humor to point out what's broken and dealing with so many of the problems Tynan eventually saw as well.

As for the season/month thing, yeah their needs to be some mention of this in the primer materials but it's because the seasons are dependent on location, not time, it's always winter/summer somewhere.
Eddy63 7 Jul, 2017 @ 2:14pm
damn you are making way too many good mods. you are building up vanila!
The Rabid Otter 26 Jun, 2017 @ 2:06pm

"maybe everything robotics related is based on biological technology?"
That's kind of the premise of "bionic," yes. So it makes sense that a doctor a couple thousand years in the future where things like bionic brain enhancements, bionic spines, and bionic arms are not only in existence but readily available would have an understanding of how advanced (or rather, advanced by our current standards) robotics work.
gabgab01 24 Mar, 2017 @ 9:19am
maybe, in this day and age, like zuicidal said, having medical knowledge and robotical knowledge is the same. after all, we don't know how the robots are built.
and the fact that you need medical knowledge to install a bionic arm properly could also be further proof that medics need a good understanding on how robotics work.
and if i do understand correctly, if a bionic arm gets damaged, a medic can "repair" it, or at least fix it. maybe everything robotics related is based on biological technology?
we already have artificial organs, albeit in a very rudimentary state. who knows what 1000 years can do to artificial organics?
Reaganomicon 23 Mar, 2017 @ 7:26pm
If a doc knows enough to stick an advanced artificial spine inside someone, they know enough about robotics.
Scrolla von Wolfenchan 23 Mar, 2017 @ 6:20pm
My explanation is that Scythers, being at least humanoid in shape, share many internal similarities as we fleshy meatbags do. Going as far as to having synthetic muscles, organs, etc, transporting all the vital eletrical signals and fluid to move them around (I doubt sheer gears alone could make up for their mobility).

And taking this information, Doctors would possess almost all the knowledge required to preform surgery on scythers despite their 100% lack of robotic knowledge. That or it's the same logic as any survival game, and that we don't question it.
ZorbaTHut  [author] 21 Mar, 2017 @ 11:53am
@gabgab01, in fairness, as of this mod, the doctor now *does* know robotics. Before he just thought he knew robotics, but didn't.

I have no good explanation for how all doctors are experts in robotics.
gabgab01 20 Mar, 2017 @ 10:58am
@cowskier he does not. that's what this mod fixes. or why else would it fail so often to remove a blade from a robot? i mean, how hard can it be to just cut off that robotic arm?
Cowskier 19 Mar, 2017 @ 6:40pm
but how does a doctor have an indepth understanding of robotics

I have literally been reading the stories you have written out to a friend for the past hour. I love you.
Slaunyeh 6 Mar, 2017 @ 5:31pm
The best is not even tho mods, the best is the dark humour in the tales...Why do i remember Monty Python...
Guhneezburt 4 Mar, 2017 @ 12:11pm
Well I still love you, Zorba. So you got that going for you.
ZorbaTHut  [author] 28 Feb, 2017 @ 10:45pm
@Griffin, the funny part is that some people say that, and some people say that the writing is great and they love it. I've ended up keeping it because I enjoyed writing it, and more people comment saying they liked it than didn't like it.

For what it's worth, the actual mechanics description is always at the bottom. This is probably one of the more complicated bits of description, however, because it changes a rather subtle and barely-noticeable behavior.
Succulent Chinese Meal 24 Feb, 2017 @ 2:21am
@ZorbaTHut I really appreciate your log entries, they're quite funny. However, you're slowing down my modding of the game because I stop to read them all! How dare you...
ZorbaTHut  [author] 20 Feb, 2017 @ 7:46am
@generalkitten, writing is fun!
general kitten 20 Feb, 2017 @ 5:02am
your really like making descriptions dont ya
Brygun 4 Feb, 2017 @ 11:00pm
Thought I had a compatibility issue but turns out default care was set to none. >.<

If nothing else, subscribing for the sake of the description.

Mmmmmhaircuts, suuurgery. Yes. Doctor Barber would be pleased.
=V= Alexander 25 Jan, 2017 @ 10:36am
It's never been very obvious, I still remember putting 5 colonists to beat centipedes to death xD
ZorbaTHut  [author] 25 Jan, 2017 @ 9:47am
@buzguy123, couldn't tell you when it showed up, but it's been in the surgery menu for, I think, at least three versions? Available if the mechanoid is downed but not dead.
buzguy123 25 Jan, 2017 @ 5:07am
What... I've been with RimWorld since the Kickstarter, and since when was there an option to break down the mechanoids into anything other than raw materials?!
"The" SeanMacLeod 17 Jan, 2017 @ 10:43pm
Yeah, a new storyteller mod:

Zorba the Hutt
The weirdest schlitz will happen to your colony, but everyone will think it's completely normal:steamhappy:......
duke dunac 16 Jan, 2017 @ 11:13pm
The description for these mods always crack me up
=V= Alexander 5 Jan, 2017 @ 12:27am
Me neither xD
Yes, once they're dead you can't get the blades
Kirren Cooper 5 Jan, 2017 @ 12:02am
Wow, I never realised you could assign surgery bills to mechanoids. Does it only work while they're incapacitated?
Grogfeld 3 Jan, 2017 @ 4:36am
Good storytelling, you should concider job in Rimworld beside Cassandra.
glass zebra 31 Dec, 2016 @ 1:52pm
Well it did not work for me either. Massing animals -> running out of hay -> malnourished chicks -> loss of consciousness -> passing out -> hay harvested and placed beside them: doctors tend to them with lavish meals.
I thought since the animal taming job takes different food, maybe medics just stupid out there. I will look for that mod, just didn't find anything for animals so far. Thank you for the tip.
=V= Alexander 30 Dec, 2016 @ 11:11am
It's right up your alley to make it so animal feed is prioritized for animals :D
ZorbaTHut  [author] 30 Dec, 2016 @ 6:42am
@tanuki, I vaguely recall that there's some meal-preference mod floating around. That may do the job - take a look for it? It's not a high priority to me because I don't often have chicks in need of tending, I've never managed to make animal rearing work for me :V
glass zebra 30 Dec, 2016 @ 5:02am
Seeing as you are doing things to make jobs make more sense: can you do it so the doctors stop feeding lavish meals to chicks, when hay/kibble is just next to them? A priority would be great of course, so they dont starve in some cases.
Might even be a buf fix because I think I never saw them use hay or kibble. They seem to treat animals like human patients and just take the best meal.
Yuuzang 27 Dec, 2016 @ 11:54am
i like the descriptions. They add a bit of spice to things.
gabgab01 25 Dec, 2016 @ 9:49am
seeing the people who are not interested in the description are so funny :D

"i have no time to read the description, a typical funny rimworld event that every one of us can relate to, because i have to beat rimworld like a tryhard"

take your time. the description is worth it, if you like rimworlds humour
ZorbaTHut  [author] 24 Dec, 2016 @ 12:54pm
@Xaxoon, scroll down to the ----, start reading there.

So what is this mod for? Could you include a small description pls for people with no time for storys?
Lady Kianna 23 Dec, 2016 @ 6:29pm
Gotta say: I love the little stories in your mod descriptions!!
