Hey that's fine, we all have to learn some way.
Perhaps make it brighter, but also check the .vmt because that is what determines shine brightness and effects.
Glad I could help!
I was thinking of making more skins like this, but honestly I'd prefer to work on individual skins rather than make a series or a set of the same kind. So feel free to make more that are similar to this, in fact I encourage it!
You're going to want to edit the base derringer texture yourself, darker is better for shiny stuff.
The only thing you're really going to want to copy is the lines from the .vmt over to the derringer .vmt as well as the 'golden' texture to the derringer folder, but you still have to make sure that the vmt lines reference the derringer texture files and not the shotgun textures.
VTFedit is crummy for .vmt files, it'll shoot out errors even for a lot of default .vmt files. I highly reccomend using Notepad++ for viewing and editing them.
And yes, it's "$phongwarptexture" "models\weapons\golden" You can rename golden to whatever you like if you change it in both the .vmt and for the file name, in case you wanted to have it be.. not gold.
You have to edit the .vmt file to find a texture to use as a "phong warp texture".
It took quite a bit of fiddling around to get it to look right, and I'm not too great at explaining the process since I only just figured out how to make the shine work and not look like crap.
If anyone wants to try to make gold/shiny textures themselves, I'll throw a bone here and link an uncompressed version of this mod. If you essentially copy what I did with the .vmt and use the seprate texture that's included, you can make a shiny texture yourself. I think if you make it a separate color it will make the shine a different color, but I'm not too sure tbh.
Here it is:

I hope to see some more shiny stuff on the workshop soon!
